When stand behind your truck looking at the spur gear mine has all the teeth grinded down on the left side? What would make it only gring the outter part of the teeth down?

A rock or its hitting the A arm shaft. Take the rear tire off hold the rear in your hand and twist it toward your gear - That is more then likely what happened. I switched it out to alloy 1st thing and have never had anymore problems, other then taking a bit off the shaft with the hardened gear.No damage to the gear though.

I think something must have got stuck inbetween em. the spur gear is sheared down on the outter side, nothing it could be rubbing on. That alloy spur gear looks sweet, i bought another stock one but i will get an alloy one as well. I bought the clear cover to go over it. Fire hammer spur gears are the same right? I ordered the cover from a firehammer as well.

I would vote against the cover. You can use the firehammer covers as well. They seem to make it more difficult to get at the gears, hold more rocks in from getting out, and the A arm rod rubs the gear cover eventually cracking it unless you cut off the back and make sure it wont rub.

Spur gears are the same but thinner in width - Wont make a difference.

i put the clear cover on but i cut the bottum of it out,it was actually rubbing on the spur gear. So i cut the bottum out, atleast it will protect the top from sticks and rocks and such,i was told it holds rocks as well but with the bottum gone don't think that will be an issue. When this plastic spur craps out gonna get the alloy one like i was adviced:)

Whats the difference in the ratios, more top end? When i do get the alloy gears i'm looking for wheely power:)

it'll give you more top speed but you might lose wheelie ability with a 16t gear if you're running the monster tires as it will have slower take off, my baja runs a 16t but the tires are an inch and half smaller so the overall gearing is about the same as 14t with big tires.

So it looks like I'll be sticking with a 14 tooth final drive gear. I may change the pinion back to a 16/48 since i've taken the stadium to a monster. Stock gears for a monster are 16/48 and I have a 18/46 which was on it when i brought it used.

Thanks for the help and didn't mean to hijack this thread.
