I am planning on rebuilding my 23cc fuelie by installing a 36mm cylinder and a 2mm stuffed crank. Does any1 know what is the proper squish clearance for this setup?

Whats the best way to check the squish?

Mik3y,

Squish can be altered by a number of factors such as stroke length and gasket thickness. I'm not sure what the actual squish setting is for your engine but it can be measured fairly easily.

Take approx. 2 inches of solder wire and bend approx. 1/2 inch at 90 degrees, with your spark plug removed insert the solder wire in and hold so the bent end is 90 degrees to the bit your holding, now hand turn the crank so that the piston traps the solder and then releases it again. Take out the solder and measure the squashed end with a micrometer. For good power you need it to be no less than 0.4mm and no larger than approx. 0.65mm.

But if I use a 2mm solder wire instead of a 1mm, wouldn't that give a different reading since one of the wires is thicker than the other?
 
i,am getting a 30.5 kit for my baja, the kit comes with 2 base gaskets a paper one and a copper one, it says to use the two to get the correct squish clearence.

Don't think so, the cylinder will just squash the 2mm further thereby giving the same measurement when squashed, unless your squish is so far out that it does not squash the 1mm solder wire.

Try it or search on youtube for the fast eddy or ddm video showing how to do it.
