I have replaced the Carb with one from DDM (Walbro), running a jetpro pipe and some other small adds to replace the basic parts that will need replacing. I have a 1/5 scale HPI 5B right now and never had an issues tunning or breaking in the buggy. On the MT, that is another story. I have put a new gasket where the exhaust header meets the block and also used gasket sealant on all areas to ensure no leaks, the carb bubble is not leaking, so it is holding the fuel mixture. I originally had it started with the choke closed and tuning the idle, which was pretty basic. I have the choke open and it will start but it is very hard to keep it going. Sounds like it there is too much fuel but after fiddling with the carb I am confused, lol. I started out with resetting the carb back to zero on the L and H needles. I went out about 1 1/2 on the L and 1 1/4 on the H, could not start the MT for 30 mins. I went out almost to 3 turns on both and it start with throttling the transmitter wide open and it finally caught and started, but I had to keep the throttle at 1/4 to keep it going and if I let off it would die instantly and sounded very bogged down, like maybe there was too much fuel. So i started tunning the card on both the L and H needle in to lean it out. But I am having a very hard time starting it every time. I checked to see if fuel is flowing, it is cause I was able to run it for about 5 minutes in the yard. I have tried priming the bulb before starts to ensure the fuel is available. I have removed the fuel line to see fuel flow, no leaks I can see. I have a small oil buildup around the Spark Plug, but very limited. Since the MT starts but then dies, I know the Spark Plug is still working. I have about 1/10 of a tank used, so still extremely new.

Any help would be great, just at the point where I am frustrated. lol..

Check your fuel pick up in the tank make shure its not got any small derbis in it. Make shure youe two carberator bolts are tight. Vent the gas cap if you haven't done so. Put a new plug in thier cheap.Check your idel screw you may have to increase it to keep it going.Check your head gasket. Two bolt heads have a tendency to blow head gaskets.Others will chime in for more help.

Thank you...I replaced the head gasket already. I haven't checked the pickup line in the tank, will do that. When you say "vent" the gas tank, what are you meaning? unscrew the top to allow the pressure to release then screw it back on?

Definitely will buy a new spark plug, do you know if a local Autozone or Hardware store would have a crossover plug that works? I haven't had any luck unless I go directly to a DDM or someone, which would require waiting several days.

Bolts on carb are definitely tight and i have locktite on them.

Thanks..

When you say "vent" the gas tank, what are you meaning?
No he means drill a hole in the center of the cap add a fitting and run a fuel line from the fitting. This allows your fuel tank to breathe. I also had to remove the two rubber breathers inside the cap as well for mine to breathe properly. Then I cut the ball part of the rubber off and used that as a seal for the cap so no fuels leaks out.

Search fuel cap vent or fuel cap mod on this forum and you get a better idea what I am talking about. I would link it for you but is a pain in ass to do on My phone

Thanks, I found the link and understand now. Hope that helps out some. I know I need to bring back the carb to about 1 1/2 on L and 1 1/4 on H, think that is what most people recommend.

Ok you can get the nkg7h or nkg 8 h at napa auto parts and aouto zone there is an autolite crossover they can look it up for you. Oh the nkg 7 is a cold plug and the nkg8 is a hot plug. You don't need a hot plug if you live in ariz/texas where the temp. is constant. On the east coast or mid west we have temp. changes .winter and sumer. So cold plug in summer and hot plug in winter.Hope this helps.

Great help guys, going to try the plug tomorrow and see how it goes and vent the cap.

Thanks for all the help. Dying to get this going since I have swapped out the tire setup to some HPI wheels, want to see how it keeps up with my Baja 5B.

Carb!

I had the same trouble with a stock carb it was messed up could not set idea had to use gain on controler. The problem was the butterfly on the carb was misalined,no way to fix it so new carb on the way.It was so bad the idle screw wasn't even touching the arm on the carb, could put a screwdriver between the screw and the arm.As for a plug mine is CMR5H NGK and that is the plug used in both my machines,I live in Ontario Canada.I have no problem with my XT but this XSC has been a bit of a pain from the begining.Run,break,fix,run,break,fix....LOL that is the fun of it all.
