My MT Pro finally got here! It's friggin BOSS :)

But, when I installed the steel gear set that I ordered, it now doesn't want to roll. It seems like the gears are not uniformly round or something. Every time the final gear (frontmost) make a complete turn they all bind up somehow. It almost acts like there's a funky tooth on one of the 25T gears, but they look fine.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is it something that I'm doin? I'm pretty new to this, but I like to think I'm pretty machanicaly inclined, so this is puzzling me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Parker

I have heard of the metal gears binding and being out of round in other posts. Some guys were able to drive them enough so that they would break in, some ended up going back to plastic. Do a search for Metal Gears...there should be a lot for you to read so you can decide what to do.

awsome. Thanks for the info, I'll see what I can find and take it from there. I thought running it some might break 'em in, but they're awful tight.

Thanks again

Ya when I get mine it didnt want to roll either, after running it once or twice it loosens up nicely. I would still double check all the gears to make sure they arent drilled off center

I've looked around and read several posts about steel gears. I think I'm gonna go ahead and stick with 'em, at least till I run it a few times. if they don't wear in to the point of being smooth I'll go back to the plastic.

It is encouraging to read that many ppl have had them wear in and loosen up. :)

1+ on that. I had a set that was off center and it was disaster for $65 worth of gears and damaged most of the aluminum squares and my lay shaft. I use plastic and have NO issues. I run a OBR 27.2 race ported with lightened piston and still have the set I started out with.

I run steel gears but use one 25t plastic gear, its the 25t gears that are really tight......and no gear cover EVER, just causes the plastic one to melt....

A few of them mesh so bad the truck wont roll. As a last resort try breaking the gears in with the truck off the ground if they are that tight. You can file the teeth by hand also.

I switched back to the plastic gears and it rolls freely. I'll stick to them for the time being...gonna check the steel ones as soon as I can find my calipers and see if the holes are true or not.

mcds 23 &26 work so nice no more binding so happy.still wish they whoud make solid d shaft ,i think it whoud solve alot of every bodys ploblems.

Not you Parker, there was a spammer that posted prior to Roccos. The spammers post got deleted and Roccos didnt hehe

So I have my Dune Runner apart for some maintenance and guess what i found out...the gearing is not what I thought it was...29/31/26/24

What's the ratio for this combination? Also, if I put in the 25/35/25/25 gears, will it be faster? And they are steel gears...so will I rip some sh*t up?
