Hi, was just wondering how strong the stock servo's are in the baja. I have the new 5b 2.0 Was thinking of replacing the thr/brake one for a stronger one for better braking power. Thanks!
 
On most RTR servos are bear minimum if that! Do not know the specks of the stock servo but I say at least 200oz for a brake throttle servo on 1/5 scale and more is even better. I am running 201oz speed 0.108 servo and up graded rear brakes which work well.

Are you still running a spring on the brake rod just before the brake adjusting knob? If so replace that spring with some fuel hose will help the braking.
 
yea I've still got that spring in. A'm going to replace it with fuel tube next time i do my servicing of it. Need new servo for the thr/brake in my Jato, so was thinking of a stronger one in the Baja, and the stocker Baja one in the Jato! Just want to make sure i get one that has more power than the orig.
 
I have a 5b SS which was a kit that did not come with a throttle brake servo so I do not know the number of the servo. I would think you could go to HPI web site and find the specks on it. I am kinda of interested to see what they are.

Keep in mind on many RC vehicles do to having the brakes where they are and not one per wheel do to the differential if you are running on a bumpy surface they brakes will not stop as quick as if one wheel is off the ground the brakes are doing little or nothing.

I am running the Full Force CF brake disc with alloy pads. I think next go round I am going to try D's brake pads with the stock disc. I hear the D's work much better then the stock pads.

WOW I do not see how they ever get the RTR baja to stop. If I am correct in my research the stock servo is a SF-4 and only has 86oz of torque! :w00t::w00t:
 
stock hpi servos are turds in a box, of course once you start factoring up all the parts you will enevitably replace on your hpi baja you will wonder why you didnt just get the aftermarket parts then fill in with stock pieces :D

I really like my HPI 5b SS but if I new what I know now getting it to large scale I would have gotten something like a MCD RR V4 with a really hot engine and probably had less in it or at least no more as I have in my 5b SS and it is 4 wheel drive. :w00t:

I will have to say parts are more readily available for the 5b and they offer a lot more after market support which is necessary. All so from running HPI vehicles for many years their customer service is second to none.

Thanks for the replies. The reason I went with an HPI is because of the aftermarket support. And like all RC's , gas, nitro , or electric there is always room for improvment. I try to replace what breaks, or what is needed for what I do with it. Stopping power is one place HPI could improve on "out of the box" I think. Starting with a strong enough servo!
 
Replacing the spring with nitro fuel line will help a good bit and make sure the servo arm is put on in the right position as well as the trim set properly.

I do not think there is any other large scale that has as much after market support as the HPI baja. I really like my HPI 5b SS only took me about $3K to get it like I want it including the SS kit. LOL

not gonna say full bore all out what i am thinking but i will say this i have been with hpi since the days of the original hpi product lines (electric motors and original generation rs4 and nitro rs4) and i can tell you i have seen a change in customer service and support and not necessarily for the better especially on the more expensive items such as the proceed and now the baja.

Been a year since I had to call them but from what I hear from others lately they are getting great service.

about 2 years ago I got a set of big bore shocks for my Savage and one of the shock bodies had a crack in it. So I called them up and they told be that this was a new item and they did not have any parts yet just the kits. So they sent me a WHOLE kit and let me keep the one I all ready had.

With in the last month there was a guy on HBF that bought a 5b and was having engine problems. He sent the engine in an they sent him a new one.

Been running HPI vehicles for 12 plus years and never had a problem with them. They have always gone above and beyond duty. This is one of the reasons I have been a loyal customer.

You are the first I have heard anything bad about HPI customer service but I do not have all the details so have no idea.
