Stopping turbuckle flex

Now that ive got a spare toy (FG BAJA) ive been bashing my MT allot harder than i normally would, namley jumping it 6-8ft. I think the turnbuckle keeps flexing and is destroying my spur gear. Everything is stock on my MT except the jetpro and alloy engine mounts.

I am getting hopefully next week a alloy spur gear and carrier but concerned that if I don't change something else the turnbuckle is going to cop in and ill start destroying that instead of the plastic spur.

Whats my solution? Besides not jumping it coz that aint gonna happen :laugh:
 
Not that I am an expert just a beginner in large scale. I was told that alloy upper arms will stop the flexing.

When I bought mine the metal connecting arm from the upper arms to the wheel was a bit chewed up. I was concerned and one of the memebers in a email explained about the alloy upper arm to stop the flexing. Also the gentleman I bought it from showed me the idea and how it flexes.

I haven't bought any yet but I figured next winter I would probably strip mine down and start to add those kind of things to the truck.

Alloy upper arms just on the rear will more than likely stop that flexing.

Man I just like hot rodding mine around not jumping to much, still so impressed with the power and speed on the flat surfaces. When I get bored with that then on to jumping. Got to crawl before walking:D
 
only the fronts have upper arms though, the rears just have this small plastic triangle whith a rod on the end that goes to the rear upright, so u think I should change the small triangle thing to alloy which should stop the flex?
 
I have home made alloy rear uppers on the semi... drilled a hole and tapped it to put a setscrew too that holds the hinge pin.

I just added alloy lowers too so need to polish that part up some. I don't have downtravel limiters but don't need them for on road

It applies to the marder but, to be honest, the flex is amplified by the big tires. I ran my Firehammer (Marder Clone) forever without any type of upgrade in the rear. I swapped out the tires to the MT's to see how it was and boom, took out the spur with the A arm shaft.
 
Here is what i done, worked a treat and easy to do.

I used 2 old turn buckles (per side that is), a treaded bar, plastic tube to cover treaded bar and a couple of bolts.
Drill the underneath of the rear bottom arm and bolted 1 end to the arm and the other to the chassis.
Think Charlieboy has done this now to his leopard.

Mine rear arms used to turn in that much on accelersion they keep hitting the spur gear and taking chucks out of them, after mod no more hassle.

I haven't experienced any problems so far. I have the lexan gear cover fitted which might help out & save the gear. I will keep an eye on it & if it becomes a problem I will do the mods like you did Jacko.
 
Jacko, I saw that mod years ago on a fully alloy beast of an MT. I think he had alloy lower arms though. Have you found any problems with any weakening of the lower arm in the plastic part. I have always thought of doing it but never have. Does the arm get banged up bashing or landing?
 
Not got the MT anymore, but it was all good at the time.
Plenty of clearance with the MT wheels so not sure what they're like with Marder ones on, you'll need to ask Charlieboy.
