i have been searching through post for a little while now and have only seen a very small number of people even talking about studding a set of mt tires.. is that because the tires are so soft of a rubber that the studs will just pull out i have used screw in studs on my quads and buddies on there dirt bikes for a few winters. but what i did see on the forum someone screwed self tapping/drilling screws in from the inside. just didnt know how well that would work as to doing the normal ice studs in from the outside and if so what length should i get i know the ones for the quad will be to long thanks for the advice in advance

yeah thats what everyone i know is running in there quads and bikes on the ice i just didnt know if everyone thought if the mt tires would hold up and that gives me a good idea of a length to buy. i should have bought them today when i placed my order didnt know they sold them

Hostile MX or MXT tires on Baja wheels will hold a screw. Typically you can run them all winter then remove the screws in the spring. I just ordered a few bags of 1/2" Kold Kutters from Daves. Three of us will be running the ice this year locally.

I also got a couple bags for the winter...

How far upstate are you? Maybe take a ride for a big Ice Bash...

I'm about 1/2hr north of Albany. Just getting the Old WheelHorse tractor all ready for some plowing. Gotta keep the ice clear this winter as well as the Back yard oval. We usually run everyweekend weather permitting.

me too i am hoping to have a great time on the ice at the lake by my house just don't know how the mt tires will hold up

I'm most concerned about ruining the inner foam that's impossible to replace seperately.

Anyone know if foam from another MT tire can be stuffed in for the winter and I can switch back in the Spring?...

what would get ruined on the foam there will be just a little point if any sticking throught the tire when the studs are in ???

Several bead lock experiences tell me there is no way to keep water out of them..regular tires should be vented to release any water that gets in (puddles etc)...The foam in these is not micro cell and will break down running through the winter.

Last Winter I ran Chevron type tires with spikes on Maximizer beadlocks on my Savage and the foam pretty much disintegrated and will have to be replaced to run this year with them.

wow thats nice to know there probally is no way to seal them 100% because of the heating and cooling of running them i was wondering if you could put some bead sealer we run that stuff on our 1:1 mud trucks and it keep mud and stuff out of the beadlocks and helps them seal alot better

We ran all last winter without screws and had to pull tires apart at the end of every day we ran to dry them. If you didn't you ended up with ice cubes for tires the next week. We hung the bajas from the ceiling above the woodstove to dry out inbetween tanks.

Thanks for the tip, but taking apart beadlocks after every time I bash on the lake can run into a lot of time...I'm going to continue looking for suitable temporary foam winter replacement....
