Stuffed crank wearing bearings faster?

Just took my engine apart to do some maintenance on it and noticed the bearings on both sides were gritty and going south. I'm running Nachi open bearings, but only seem to be getting a short (2+ gallon) lifespan out of them. I did notice that while the rest of the engine is well lubed, the bearings don't seem to have much or any lube on them at all.


I'm wondering if this is because of the stuffed crank? There doesn't seem to be much room in there anymore to get oil down to the bearings. Anybody have any experience with that happening?
 
Rob, can you describe the mod? Maybe a link to someone who has done it?...I'm rebuilding soon and would want to do this.
 
Thanks for the help guys. I did find a picture of a wildchild engine that has the oil hole mod, will give it a try.

I have been running stuffed cranks for over two years in both my trucks without any problems. I really like the extra torque the stuffed cranks gives me. Usually my stock Zenoah bearing last for well over 7-8 gallons.

Maybe you are running a bit lean in the oil/gas mixture? It should be around 4% of oil in there..........
 
Im running 25:1, like I said before the cylinder is always well lubed. And even at the botton of the crankcase there is a pool of oil. Just seems like the bearings are completely dry? Next rebuild I am going to try that oil hole mod.
