I personally wouldn't.

Bear in mind you're working with a different scale then a car, on parts that move at much, much higher rpms.
 
well 80w might be close to the sam viscosity, different color of course, but then again it might be to thick,
either way when playing with automotive gears oils your gonna have to trial and error a few,
i would suggest buying the hpi diff oil and be done with it,you can get it on ebay for $6-7 or even at your local hobby shop,lot less mess then trying different gear oils
 
yah and isnt that stuff also a silicone based oil as well? car oils arent, either synths, or petrol based, prolly if you put a car gear oil in there, you wont have any plastic parts left, as it would dissolve it
