So, I drove the FG MT around for a few hours this weekend... and it really is a blast. There are more than a few twin burn-out marks on the sidewalk and garage floor! It's insane that it will spin those huge tires like nothing on concrete! Not to mention the 30 foot roost of gravel when you pin it!

Now, the reasons I'm selling it...

  • The wheelbase is too short for my liking. It's a handfull to keep straight going flat out.
  • I like the was the 5b SS has a minimal body shell. The big (AND EXPENSIVE) body on the MT is going to get trashed they way I want to drive the truck.
  • Parts availability: My LHS told me that the diff side drive cups were backordered from Germany for 6 months. I know that if I have a HPI Baja, I won't have an issue finding parts.
  • I have 4 other friends that all run HPI Bajas. That means 4 other people I can trade parts with, and 4 other people that know those buggys well.
  • I got a GREAT deal on this truck, and if I sell it, I'm hoping to pay for my Baja, PLUS pocket some money.

And to all those who suggested that I keep it AND buy a 5b... it's like you guys read my mind! Six months ago, that's exactly what I would have done. But now I have a nice big mortgage payment, a wedding and honeymoon to pay for this summer, and a new German Shepherd who is going to eat me out of house and home. Maybe someday, I'll bite the bullet and get a MT (and the 4WD kit). I know I will never find the deal I found on this one, but that's just the way it has to be right now.

hey bud. sounds like that was a hard decision, but i think it was a good one. your gona love the 5b. it handles much better. and to be honest, we don't really care what you have. this is a non-specific large scale forum. were just glad your here. good luck and keep us posted. also thro up the ebay link and sale# so we can follow it or if someone here is interested.. see-ya

I like the look of the 5T, but I'm going to stick with the SS. The reasons are that I already have a DX3 system, a nice Hitec 5745 steering servo, and a nice throttle servo sitting on my bench waiting for a Baja to call home... so I'd just be wasting all the RTR stuff that makes the 5T so much more. Plus, I REALLY don't want a big expensive body shell that I'm going to ruin.

Oh... and I like building kits! That way if the motor falls out, I know I'm to blame!

If I really get the itch for a truck, I'll get the Proline Desert Rat kit sometime in the future.

Yup. Paul from Car Kings was the guy I got my diff cup and dogbone from. He had some at home as spares... And he's actually the one that painted the body on the FG.

We're down in Hastings, and there are 4 or 5 of us that run 1/5 scale.
 
Well, it's gone!

Someone got a good deal... $665 for the whole package. Was it anyone on this site?

I'm going up to RC Car Kings this afternoon to pick up the SS!
