Well after getting my bitsa FG Marder started for a short run i have been bitten BIG style by these large scale cars.

Now then after talk last week with my LHS i have decided to get a Baja 5B SS......carnt wait

Is there anything i need to be aware of etc with the build or anything i should add/change when i start its build ?

Cheers MUD

First off, you wom't be disappointed with the SS mate, they are awesome !! :2guns:
When I built mine, the only things I added during the build was an Outerwear for the pull start, and for the air filter. I ran it for a while like that with no problems at all. If your running in muddy conditions, windows are a good idea... keeps the filter cleaner, (easy to make... A4 sheets of perspex on fleabay for £3 !!)
Stock tires are ok but not brill. Ive just put Hostile MX on the rear of mine... WAY better, especially in the mud !!
Also, swap the brake linkage spring for a length of fuel tubing... BIG improvement !!
Keep us posted dude !! :clown:

Thanks Hyperpete........as soon as it turns up i will start a new thread on the build.
I was just looking for (as you posted) little tip coming from experience.

Thanks

many good things that can be done for next to nothig or nothing.

take a look at our sister site, www.hpibajaforum.com
sign up and go to the top of the General section for the 5B (top section) look at the sticky called first run checkup.
grab a pot of coffee and read (its a long thread, maybe 45 or more pages. lol) but has ALOT of great things to check, do and tweek for a more enjoyable first run.

Just have fun with the build and take the upgrading easy.. It will be real easy to get out of hand with the upgrades since there are so many and the wallet will get lighter and lighter.
You will be fine out of the box it is a great kit, until you want more power!!

Congrats! Tell us when its born. :happybday:

I sure intend to BTB,.....not to keen on upgrades but some models have a few bits that need attention out of the box and as its a build would much rather do it now than later

I love my SS. That thing is a beast. Definitely do the outerwear pre-filters. I put a Rhino underguard on mine and hostile Mini MX tires all around. Also, I got the Turtle brake upgrade (a must in my opinion) and good throttle and steering servo.

Out of everything i did, i believe the most important is the brake system. I found my previous baja and this one couldn't brake as well as it should until i got the Turtle brake system.

Thanks Chris.....can you give me anymore info on the turtle brake system please.

I use a jr9100t or 8100t servos in mine and it will lock the tires up. Its all in the torque. I can tell you the stock brake set up will eventually split at the aluminum brake disk parts and crack on the steel disk parts with a stronger servo. I think its from the stress it takes from the lock up.
I have gone through two sets but I started making my own for fun now. ;)

Actually, I am sorry. In my original baja i had a few years back i had the turtle brake system. I got the TGN on on this one. It works very well..
The disc is carbon fiber and the actual caliper is made of billet. You also get bearings instead of bushings.

Here is a link for you:
