Wondering if anyone has run one of these before and what their opinion is.

Noticed on another forum they claim this to be the best filter system on the market.

i do have one. Love it. easy to use, filters last a long time as long as they stay DRY.

one thing is you MUST USE the OEM Techumseh brand filter. other brand filters are not the same medium, so don't filter as well, as well as the filter housings are just a smidge smaller than the OEM Techumseh filters. I source them from Walmart here, but the OEM filters can be found around. just don't buy the non OEM replacment filter if you get the setup.

I have a thread here and on HBF outlining the details of setting it up so they don't have problems or leaks ect....

but done up right, its a GREAT setup impo.

i understand you Oz guys have an aftermarket filter avail that works very well. I want to say its Big Kel over on HBF that has one of JRs housings, and knows of the filter, but i May be mistaken.

like a foam filter, grease the mating surface of the filter and the housing. the housing has a throat built in that the filter fits over. grease the outter face of the filter, but leave the area that goes into the throat on the housing dry.

More so you don't stuff the throat with grease putting on the filter. the grease will seal the filter to the back of the housing and ensure all air flows thru the filter. Some of the cheap ass filvers will leak around the filter medium and their molded on ends, as well as be a bit smaller as i noted above, so just be sure the filter is a quality filter, keep it dry and greased, and youll be dandy.

Timmahh,

Is there a pre-filter that will fit over the Tecumseh filter, similar to the outerwears pre-filter?

i use an elastic outerwares. either the elastic or draw string outerwares will work. the elastic unit is a bit stretched when its one, but it does reach around the back of the housing and it stays on.
heres a pic to show.

you can see the filter medium is a bit dirty. this perticular filter has been on for quite a while. I ll have to get a new Outerwares and filter before too long though.

thanks for the info, ill contact a couple of hobby shops and see if they can get some of the Techumseh brand as everyone is telling me this is the best type.

when i get it i might doublt check the area's youve recomended I grease, without looking at one im a little unsure.

If you look closely at the outter edges of the housing, you ll see where dirt was built up between it and the filter. you can see how dirty this filter is, and this was with a well fitting outterwares on it as well. the bottom pic is of the tissue i used to whipe the throat of the Threshold Dune Housing with. you can see there is no dirt what-so-ever on it.

awesome, i know exactly what to do when I get one now.

thanks heaps

i know it depends on conditions but because you don't clean these rather just replace will I be replacing after every 1-2 tanks? My foam filters I clean and re-oil after every 1 to 2 tanks.

ive ran mine until the filter is dirty dirty, take the filter off, knock off all the loose stuff, blow it out from the inside with the compressed air until all the loose stuff is gone, and you can reuse it. if your sand running, it wont need to be changed for a good while. just keep the spare handy if you get it wet, or when it is ready to change. that one above had like 5 to 7 tanks of track running on it. after a few tanks around my place and in the dunes.

great stuff, guess you just take a good look at it, if most of it comes off using compressor and inside is still spotless ok to re-use a bit longer, otherwise replace.

sounds easy enough.

ive been in contact with a large aussie hobby shop who are in the process of stocking more Techumseh kits, and it looks like there are a few people waiting on filters here in oz for these too so good signs!

Make sure your outer filter isn't oiled too heavily, because oil could be sucked into the paper filter and you'll never be able to blow it out, if it's packed with dirt and oil.

this setup doesn't use an outer filter. only the Techumseh filter with the billet housing. i do use an outerwares on it, but thats all. no other filters needed.

As Tim has stated these are the ducks gonads do as he has said and youll never look back,i was one of the first ppl in Aus to buy this system when first released and i swear buy it......but don't be caught out and buy an after market filter element.....buy the original Tecumseh filter as this sytem was designed around, the genuine artical has a made in Mexico moulded into one end of it and can be ordered thru www.rcbuggies.com.au for australian buyers

they may also have Made in Argentina molded across the front. both are fine, as long as they are OEM Techemsehs.

you can put a red neck on it, but no reason to really. the paper filter catches down to .005 micron particals.

the outerwares doesn't go on hard persay, its tight at the back with the elastic wrapping around the back edge, but it goes on pretty easily.
