A while back a mate of mine bought a 2nd hand car, Im sure he was told it was a Marder. The guy that sold it is sound, so it probably is a Marder. :w00t:

A fortnight ago we were chatting on the phone and I was offered the car, I said yes immediatley and thought nothing more of it. He called back tonight and the conversation got confused as he reckons he wasnt selling the car, he's just giving it to me!!!! He'd rather that, than it lay in the garage gathering dust and seizing up.

As I recall it had a body on it like a white Baja 5t and another that was a Beetle I think, so now Im pacing back and forth till gets here on Monday with my new baby!!! :cup-1:

Is that right though, does anyone do a body like a trophy truck/ 5t kinda thing!

I think you need to breath and stop hyperventilating. Then just thank your lucky stars that its ANY 1/5 scale. Then go buy your mate a dinner and thank him/her.

What a great thing he /she did......

Oh were pretty solid....theres three of us, guess we must look like something out of 'Last of the summer wine' a BBC TV series, but Google would explain it!

But hey we've all done that sort of thing, what might be worth something financially, is worth far more to a friend at zero cost and it always comes back to you with interest.

I'll do pics when I have something to show.

doesn't look familiar, I think it sat lower to the ground and the wheels werent so far out? Too 'monster truck' looking. Shapes kinda right I think, it reminded me of a short course or the 5T quite strongly when I saw it at first.

Not too bothered about the shell, although I know there expensive, a Baja Beetle would be right up my street, especially with my 5B to play with.
There doesn't seem to be a huge choice for 1:5 shells ? Would love to do a rally car shell, something like Mika Hakkinen's Peugeot on Pikes Peak run.

Anyone have any UK websites for 1:5 shells?

Guess your going to have to wait...same as me!

How about..............Bowler Wildcat in 1:5?

Now that would be special, would have to be grp though or epoxy. But it coould be done, god knows I've done enough large boat hulls. Same deal I think, make a plug, lay it up and crack off the mould your done. We did it with the 5B and that worked out fine, few bubbles but nothing worth worrying about.

Might run this past my son, I've never worked in clay or plaster, thats much quicker for the plug. Now wheres that Mardave Bowler shell ?????????

A bowler wildcat would be incredible. That's my dream truck haha. Hard to come by in the US :D

Ladies and gentlemen............the beast has indeed arrived!!!!!

My mate called this afternoon as he's working at home and said to drop by and pick the thing up. Still no clue as to what car it is, but the two shells are a trophy truck and a beetle.

The pipes normal looking, but not too sure about that split manifold, the other end of the split is a bit a mystery too.

The pullstart cover sticker has seen better days so its harder to see what the engine size is, but its not a '23' I think...any ideas?

Pinion and spur gear, maybe help you guys identify this car?

Pinionspur.gif

Single shocks at the front and doubles to the rear.

No sign of any other braking system, so Im going to have to get this setup operational, never had brakes like that. Just the discs, nothing else.

Now..........I have no idea what this could be, some sort of breather for the crankcase? Any suggestions on a ten pound note please !

Thats it guys, so I need your help and experience working out what this could be, it may well be a hybrid of more than one car or make of car I suppose, but lets see what the experts think ?

the gear plate, suspension and layshaft brake look like they are FG style (probably a clone, nutech, redcat possibly?)

That last photo looks like the tube goes to teh fan cover, and not into the crank case. I reckon that tube could be an air bleed for something. no idea what. I can only think of something like a skirt on a hovercraft or other ancillary.

there's a thread on here somewhere with a monster beetle with a twin header like yours. the main can looks similar. your mate probably just totalled one of the cans so blanked off the other header.

You are also missing the air filter. Don't run it (even on a bench) without one because you can kill the engine.

I cant see any brake anywhere, my mate has never ran this, this is how he got it.
There isnt any way to attach a filter and seeing as I don't know what type it is yet, its looking like I might have to fabricate one to suit an available filter.

Im curious about the exhaust now, its a big pipe to have split and then fed it into two of those? Maybe they should be two smaller boxes fitted onto the header???

Brake parts to suit those front disks look expensive, Ive just seen a post where someone used an alloy bar as brake in the way you mentioned for the layshaft.
That may well be plan B for the brakes, if I had a drawing I could perhaps have a go at making a hydraulic setup......maybe!

As for that tube, maybe an extra air intake? I know my Baja gets choked after a few mins running, so maybe that lets some much needed air in there. Might have been better with a cage there though?

Anyone any more ideas on what car this is yet?

The 4th pic down shows the brake rod (to outside edge of car) and throttle rod (inner rod) and 7th pic down shows the brake rod connecting to the layshaft brake post behind the gear

The chassis and wheels/tyres are ShengQi.The rear tower/rear hubs/upper rear arms/lower rear arms are FG MT/MB.The front upper and lower arms/hubs/A+B bulk heads are FG Marder/Beetle.The gear carrier is FG/Carson and that all I could make out by the pics.
Its a bit of a Frankenstein monster. The alloy rear bumper and front bumper is made from MT roll bars.
Good luck.

look in pic 2 at the back of the carb, there are 2 screw holes. that's where the filter goes. you will need the plastic mounting and the filter foam (and some oil) anything from a Zen or CY motor should fit it fine. see the pictured on this thread for what it should look like

no, that's definitely an air take off as the outside of the fan pushes air from the centre of teh case to the outside. Perhaps the previous owner tried to use it like a turbo to force feed air into the carb, hence why there's no filter?

as for the pipe, looks a bit like the one in this thread https://www.largescaleforums.com/showthread.php?t=7393&highlight=twin+pipe&page=2

Well......looks like lightening does strike in the same place twice!

Another partner was having a good old clearout, he already sold all his nitro trucks on Ebay before the holdiay and we needed to catch up a bit.
So it looks like I've inherited his petrol pony too!

Its one those XRC things, but he's remodelled it to look pretty much like a Baja 5B as he wasnt keen on the original look. As with a few of these there were probs with stripped gears and a mangled clutch bell.
Thats all sorted and its running quite happily these days.

Spoilt for choice now, Im deciding what to do with it....
Biggest thing for me at the moment is the crap sound of the exhaust, anyone know of a cheap exhaust that fits an XRC and doesn't sound 'boggy'?

I fancied trying to waterproof it a bit and using it on a beach or muddy field with paddle tyres, that way none of the better cars get trashed, but I still have a laugh. I remember someone saying that they had fitted paddles to tyres themselves, has anyone any experience of homebrew paddles?

You could try an X-can. They are a little too loud for my tastes, but certainly better than a stock muffler. Good mid range and the top end is ok. Low end is slightly improved over stock.

Here's a pic.
