I have an FG monster truck with a Jet-pro silenced version 1. I am about to place an order for an engine... The best bang for the buck I have found is the GP29cc from DDM... Is there anything that I should be aware of with this engine? Is there anything anybody could recommend instead? Mind you, this is a "Low dollar" build. Around the $200-$250 range

I am looking for low end power and a bit of top-end. My truck is stock, so I don't need something that is going to tear my truck apart! I have a Jet-Pro silenced version 1 pipe, so I can not fit a reed conversion.

Any ideas?

Thank-You,
Trip..

Trip your choice is a wise one in my oppinion if its the gp290 v2 version, thats a nice motor,u got the big bore 36mm and a standard stroke(stock 28mm) crank and its a stuffer to,if its the one in the link below ,u got the big bore power off the line and the short stroke for a decent topend, thats one of the best bangs for your buck kinda deal:detective:

That is the only CY motor i would buy as well.

at 260.00. you can buy the new Zen G270RC 4bolt cylinder. then later if you want to get more power, you can buy a ready ported topend, or send the motor out to be fingered, or better yet machined. I Think you ll be able to buy ESP pre ported topends some point later this yr. don't quote me on that. but i know Doug has this on his list of products to be done.

but at any rate, the cy GP29 is a great lil motor. Only suggestion i have right out of the box, is to upgrade the crank bearings, or atleast order a set of bearings and seals. the cy bearing are ok, but they do tend to fail more often than not.

OK thanks for the input guys. I think I am going to go with the gp29. How is DDM to order from? Prompt shipping?

Thanks,

i would not buy that,cy.......mmmm

i would stick to japanese motors and get the o neill brothers 27.2 race ported head kit comes with 2mm stroker stuffed crank.(presuming you still have your old zenoah stock motor)

this kit c/w cylinder head machined and race ported 27.2cc,piston with work done, gudgeon pin, circlips, head gasket,2mm stuffed stroker crankshaft, and everything you will need for the rebuild.

this is a direct bolt on kit to you engine and will in my opinion be your best overall value,at 149$ its a beast of a deal.

just compare the PRICES,and this kit will prob be the fASTEST of the lot and most relibale,i have done research and all fingers are pointing me to the link below.

mine should be in the post any minute from o neills, great price 149$

just a set of seals with it and some case bearings and a lot of assembly lube and away you go for a good break in,you would have one fine motor, and cheap.

my opinion.

Thanks for your thoughts, but my stock lower end is cracked. I found this out the other night. I was contemplating another head kit until I found a window in the case. I have to do this on a budget so I ordered the Gp290.

GP29 is a good choice as you get the larger bore piston (as toez71 mentioned), and they are supposed to have better plating than the CY's. Lots of potential should you wish to mod it later. :)

i can order from DDM Thursday by 1pm our time, and Normally have the item in the mail on saturday. be sure to choose the USPS Priority choice for shipping. (also make sure you ask for the clutch system (free just need to ask) or the motor will come with out it.

I ordered the motor with the clutch and carb, do you mean it isn't going to come with the clutch?

I just checked and my 7 pound box is on it's way with goodies for me to play with!!!! WoooHooo!!

Fed Ex picked it up at 4pm this afternoon (I placed the order at 4:00 this morning)...

OK cool, I was starting to get a little nervous... The reason I went with a complete set up is because I don't want to screw around with it. I want to just throw the clutchbell on and drop it in.

As soon as the Box-O-Fun gets here I am going to do a complete tear down and a thorough cleaning of the truck... This thing looks like I just pulled it from a swamp. But I bought a new toothbrush, (the ole lady hates it when I use hers for some reason) 2 cans of brake cleaner and a bottle of good ole WD...

I'm going to drag the air compressor in the kitchen and I don't care what the ole lady says... My house, my rules!!! (when she's not around lol)

Seriously, I already have my 6 foot tall Craftsman tool box in the kitchen now!! She says, "Is this really necessary?" I respond with, "Yes it is, I have a lot of money in that box and I don't want my tools to get cold." I say this laughingly, (To you guys) ...But this conversation never gets old... Especially when her friends come over for a visit and she has to explain why there is a tool box in the kitchen... I find it aesthetically pleasing, It really looks nice with the decor of the room. Plus the chandelier really lights up the drawers.

OK enough...

Trip: that is a good engine you just ordered..Gp290..better plating in the cylinder....
As for me I am not sure what I will do yet rebuild or go with what you just ordered...
Best to you and your project...AKASlawhammer

Thanks for the reply SlawHammer. My motor should be here tomorrow, once it is in I will let everyone know my thoughts on this purchase.
