I am thinking about the 29cc CY motor from DDM. Has anyone tried this? They have it in 2 versions, with a stuffed crank and with out. I read the ad, but can anyone tell me the difference. I guess what I mean is, is it worth the extra 20 bucks for the stuffed? http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/c.885035/n.1/it.A/id.4415/.f

I don't need a ported race motor and I can't use a reed carb because of my Jet-Pro pipe would get in the way. I am just looking for a relatively powerful motor at a decent price. Are the CY motors any good? What about longevity? I could go back to stock, but I am looking for a little more power.

If you read my other thread, this is basically what I was trying to do in the first place and failed, twice. I am done rebuilding and tearing the motor down so I think it is time for a new one. A complete drop in a "turn-key" if you will.

Are there better motors out there for around the same price? Or can someone offer a rebuild service for my stock 26 and throw a big bore kit on it? I just don't have the time to fiddle with it.

I don't know what to do.
Thanks.

The GP290 is a good motor for the price.

What type of money are you thinking of spending?

What does your lower end look like? How are your bearings case ect?
Any chance the bottom end can be rebuilt and a new top end be installed?

I was thinking about $200. But if I order that gp29 w/o a clutch and w/o a carb plus the 5% discount from here it will be $163.50 shipped to my door!!! That is CHEAP!! I have spent twice that on some of my old nitro motors! So guess what motor is going to be in my truck!

Does anyone have any experience with this motor?

I would pick the GP290 over the CY29 just because of the known longevity of the plating in the GP290 cylinder over the CY29.
EarthSurfer uses the GP290 to make his 30.5cc's because of the better plating.
I think the GP290 is a 28.5cc cylinder? This way you will see what the 28.5 should of been like.

Ya, that's what I was thinking too. I just hope this Chinese motor is a quality motor. I can't figure out why it is so much cheaper than a Zenoah.

Speaking of bearings...which are good bearings? What about those low drag seals? Do they make that much of a difference?

I have the CY29 and I liked it.

You know what you could do if you wnat is get a race ported 28.5cc kit with a stuffed crank and a new set of crank bearings and seals, and a new carb, then you'll be good to go, but the GP 290 is a cheaper way to go still.

I hate to say it, but right now I need something cheap. LOL

I watched a butt load of youtube vids with 29's and it seems pretty decent.

Cart comes up empty, I think because it's on your account so the info doesn't pass when you post a link.

Oh OK...

Remember I have an FG Monster...

TGN Redneck pre-filter for the 5b... Will this fit the stock air cleaner on a FG M/T? $10.00
Gp290 Chrome W/ Stuffed crank, with clutch and carb $209.00
Waterproof kill switch cover (does this motor come with this?)??????? $2.75
Plastic 48 tooth spur gear (that is stock right?) $11.93
FG Racing DVD. $1.00
A few other small things, nothing important...

For a grand total of $226.12 w/LSF discount.

Help me out guys, please!

The stock air cleaner is already pretty good, I don't think the TGN will make much if any difference. They are really made to cover something like a K&N filter (don't get a K&N!).

You should be able to tell if the engine has the waterproof kill switch cover from the pictures, usually it's red.

Plastic 48 is stock yes.

:)

I looked at the pictures of the Gp29cc from DDM and I saw the rubber kill switch cover in the picture/description, but it didn't say if it was included or not. It isn't that big of a deal, but I was wondering if it came with the motor?

I have the stock air filter and where I run, it gets plugged up pretty quickly. I bought an Outerwears filter cover, but with the Jet-Pro pipe I have, it is a Huge pain in the ass to remove and replace for cleaning!!!! I figured the TGN outer would be a lot easier to install..

The Baja TGN Redneck will not fit. use the one for the MT. Yes, its better then just running stock and goes right over it.
Redneck advantage on FG

FG Redneck

If the switch is in the photo, just make a note to them or email them that you see it in the photo and would like to make sure it is included. They will make sure its there.
Also may want an extra gasket:
Exhaust gasket
maybe?:Billet intake
maybe? I WOULD: Pull Start Perfilter
If not included: Alloy Pawl
May want to get these now: Higher RPM spring

Electronic engine kill switch unless you already have one.

Yup, get one if you have a spare 3rd channel open. Out of stock though.

I have an inline fail safe, a fail safe built into my receiver and my HiTec 5955tg is programed for full brake in a signal loss. I rigged up a servo that pushes the kill switch too. Hee Hee, I think I am safe... I hope.
