Top guard on engine mod

The black plastic cover that protects the cylinder is a grass magnet on my baja and I think it's a overheat waiting to happen. What do you guys think if I cut it about a quarter inch past the plug hole, so there is just enough to cover the coil and hold wire. Think it would be ok, or should I leave because of cooling reasons. I say cut the plastic. I've seen a couple like this, but did they last???? Thanks

Cut it to 20mm of the plug on the clutch side only, this is what most users do and won't stop the cover doing it's job. Regualr maintenance will keep your fins clear.
