Hi people, i am new here and new to large scale too.

Actually i have an FG Marder that i am rebuilding, it is very (ab)used (i had it by an exchange for my mugen mbx5r 1:8 buggy).

I have in mind a thing that i want to realize. I would like to buy a touring car abd use it as a rally car. so no tarmac only dust, grass and bad dirty tracks :2guns:

The problem is that i never had a touring car in any scale so i don't really know if it is enough and possible to change ammo, rise its height from the ground, pick some good off road or gravel tires and go or if there are some more problems to solve i don't know about.

I would like to buy an fg car because there are a lot of shops where to find spare parts and hop ups but i know that mcd already has a kit for its Rally model. The problem is that i cannot find a good shop for that brand and also it seems to me that mcd is not as good as fg so i would prefer FG, but probably i am wrong about mcd.

Any suggestion, idea, hints....:boat:

Thank you for your reply!

Ricky

Hello Wilcat, and welcome to the forum.

I believe you could convert an on-road to a rally car. The main thing would be the suspension setup and getting the correct chassis size to fit a rally car body of your choice.

I have both MCD and an FG. You are correct that you can find allot of parts for the FG cars. However, the MCD platform is tried and tested and i personally feel like their quality is just as good as FG's... The nice part about the MCD rally cars is that they are 4WD and that is pretty important when you go in loose dirt areas as the tail will tend to want to spin out of control.
Personally, IMHO I would just get the MCD and call it a day. You get everything you need, and i believe it would be a pain to modify an FG..

on road and off road share most parts with slight differences. you have a marder so you have options right there. a vw body with the fenders and undertray and you have a car. rc car online has a cool ac cobra body that fits a marder, and there is a vw touraeg setup... even a pajero... both the pajero and vw have undertrays with wheel wells to keep some crud out, so that would be my suggestion. and I am doing a vw myself right now, and converting it to 4wd this winter. mine will be rally and on road since I have the mt for hardcore off road and 2 on road platforms

Thank you Chris for your feedback about MCD, nice that you have both MCD and Fg so you know what you are talking about. I understand and share what you said about 4x4 but i have to check more deeply the part about spare parts availability. But now MCD has gained points ;-)

Hi pipeous, i would like to keep marder as a marder at this point (i changed my mind a lot of times...wanted to transform it in a Hummer than in a beetle now i decided to keep it as a marder :clown:) and have a rally car as this one but based on a touring car by fg with its own stock body (BMW) if possible making some changes. I would love it also if it would be a 2x4 WD only.

If it would be possible to do just changing wheels, rims, shocks and other simple things i would go for FG otherwise i would choose for an MCD Rally with an off road kit.

As i told before, the main reason that let me prefer FG at this point is the very good availability of spare parts and hop ups. I am Italian so shipping cost from Germany is not so high. If i find a good reseller of MCD products and spare parts maybe the choice would be already made.

Thanks both for your help

Ricky

PS: i saw the cobra body righy now...nice! this could be a very good alternative thx a lot for the hint!

as long as you have the room. last winter I tossed buggy tires on my semi and ran it in an icy/snowy parking lot lol. I use buggy shocks, and if you'd seen the airtime it got off this lip in a parking lot with on road tires... the ride height helps as the semi tires are same as the buggy rims.. taken an on road and tossed mt tires on, just changed gearing. I might even have a pic still.

I like FG and like that many Firehammer parts fit as well, making the parts even cheaper. I was changing my mind so I just keep buiying chassis now and adding parts. up to 4 now and they all basically share parts. having both your rides fg makes it easier to keep parts. lots of bodies and different chassis size too. I picked up a marder chassis for $40 on ebay

you should update your location in your profile as well. helps people direct you to local help

could you be so kind to give me some link to online shops (in usa or europe) where i could take a look to some spare parts and see what i could do with them? thanks for your help mate

Cheers

Ricky
