TPS Central hydraulic braking system!

I've tried it all. For the price a cable setup in the front and a steel disk on the layshaft and you're fine. Sometimes more is not needed. If you have the funds then go for Hydros or the airbrakes. My Cleon has the air brakes and they give you full 360 degree braking. The membrane pushes on all the surfaces of the disc inside. With cable or hydros the pads only touch a portion of the disc.

Besides, the layshaft brake system still allows the vehicle to spin out which is why you need the help of front brakes. If you replace it with a cable setup in the rear then you have the fun part of removing extra parts to work on the rear.

You don't want to complicate matters when you need to wrench on your rides.

Hope this helps!

Wise words Selwa, would you advise the Elcon brakes then?
J.

If $$ permits I'd go for the Elcon air brakes. Expensive, but they do come with the special uprights. You need a good 200oz+ servo to run them right.

If you're on a buget I'd get the steel disc upgrade in the rear and then cable brakes in the front or just the front cable breaks There are the regular and the tunning version. For the difference I'd go for the tunning version. Much better buy.

Keep in mind with the cable breaks I'd get a servo with at least 168oz like the Hitech 5645. Not worth using 1 servo to run both sets of brakes and throttle.

so looks like people do not think this is an improvemnt over stock layshaft brakes

Its not. Its another version of the lay shaft brake. I can lock my tuning lay shaft brake up and the differential will still spin. I would skip it and go directly to cable, hydro, or air.;)

well when Elcon makes the Airbrakes for the FG 4WD then ill buy some ...

Not for awhile. There are not enough FG 4wd's on the market right now. The FG Stock alloy uprights for them are a fortune!! Around $200US total for a pair. They are different since the inner bearing is larger to fit the new wheel shafts.

My friends comp has the cable brakes and with the right servo they work fine.

well i brought the TPS Central hydraulic braking system.

it should be here soon, i brought this planning of using it with a lsd diff, but for some reason my lsd (locking diff) got lost on the way to australia, i got a refund, but for now funds are limmited due to me not wanting to work for a while, so ill try the TPS Central hydraulic braking system on a new fg alloy diff and see how its goes.

it still worked out cheaper then the alloy gear plate, and front cable brakes

i had other options

option 1

the cable brakes are $200 aud

the 7479 brake upgrade needed for the alloy gear plate $65 aud

the alloy gear plate $75 aud

total $340 aud not including shipping

option 2

and the tunning brake upgrade 8449 $60 aud

the 7479 brake upgrade needed for the alloy gear plate $65 aud

the alloy gear plate $75 aud

total $200 aud not including shipping

option 3

front hydros $285 aud

pluss i needed the alloy gear plate $75 aud

the 7479 brake upgrade needed for the alloy gear plate $65 aud

total $425 aud not including shipping

option 4

no brakes and use the stock plastic gear plate $free

option 5

TPS Central hydraulic braking system $240 aud

total $240 aud not including shipping

option 6

elcon diff brake $160 aud

elcon raised diff mount left $83 aud

elcon raised diff mount right $83 aud

elcon Connection Plate for Diff Brake $21 aud

pluss the alloy gear plate i need $75 aud

total not including shipping $422

option 4, option 5 and option 2 where the ones i like best and option 5 should work better, so i picked option 5 it was the second cheapest option and ment to be the more effective then option 2 and option 4 is not realy an option.

ill just have the see how it goes.

Yeah,

The rear upper arm from Elcon make contact with the brakecaliper!
A little modification on the upper arm and you have no more problems with it!

i could not see the point for buying the elcon diff brake at all as it the same as the layshaft brake

and i had to buy the elcon diff brake and the left and right rasied diff mounts and the elcon diff brake conection plate....

it would cost me over $350 aud not including shipping or the alloy gear plate, so to me the elcon diff brake was bs.

so it would cost me over $485 aud just for the elcon diff brake witch is the same as the layshaft brake.

so i disdnt even include it as an option as its way to much for what it is the option i when with imo is a better option

Whe I buy this parts here it cost me:

Elcon raised diffmount R+L €91,-
Elcon connection plate €10,25
Elcon diff brake €89,-
shipping €6,75

total €197,-

That is a huge difference i must say!

The TPS chb set makes a little contact with the upper arm.
In the upper arm you must a small piece milling away.
I think if you used a 16T on your layshaft to the diff you have no problems!

there is not much difrence realy as €197 works out to be $350 aud, not including the alloy gear plate, so its pritty much the same.

im planning on using the 16t on the layshaft, but i will try the 14t also as see if there is any contact

what your guys thoughts on this since the brake master cylnder i have normaly does two calipers but its only doing one, i will buy some front hydros when i can and T the brake line and run 3 brake calipers of the one master cylnder and upgrade the thottle servo to a HS-7955TG, if that don't work i can use the second master cylnder from the front hydro kit and buy another brake serrvo like im using now, ive read others running 4 calipers of one master cylnder.

Not a bad idea!! I would give it a try. It would free up some space on the FG.

i think itsa good idea and might work well and save running a 4th servo as i don't not want to upgrade radios as i love my 2.4ghz 3pm and i would like to keep things simple as i can
