one of my friends is considering getting an off roader as well, after me telling him about taking up the hobby.
he has quite a bit of land, and we were chatting about having a dedicated outdoor off road rc track. what would be the best material for construction, i.e driving surface: gravel, sand, clay? Never been to a dedicated track but any ideas?

id guess gravel or the likes, maybe more dirt than gravel.

id stay away from clay, when wet the stuff is a nightmare to wash off the toys. sand can be quite hard on drivetrain and filters so would avoid that as well.

if your going to use the track all year round build it from the same stuff bmx race track builders use, i raced bmx untill last year and you can ride a track 90% of the year, i think they use a lime stone hardcore base with a gravel type topping, i don,t think clay or normal soil type dirt would work unless you lived some with hardly any rain, good luk.

A decent 6" hardcore base will allow the water to soak through what ever top finish you choose. If its a field just mow a track out & drive :D:D
