trans gear protection?

Others should chime in, but I don't think anyone uses a cover there and it's never been an issue.

I do run an outerwears fan protector that covers the flywheel from underneath the engine. It really keeps TONS of dry grass from clogging up your fan. (you should also cover the pull start to keep grass etc. out)

Don't worry about the main crown gear...it's good to go naked... ;)
 
I would say no, unless you bash in an area that's nothing but small rocks & pebbles, the occasional one that might not get wacked away by the turning speed of the gears should get crushed in the gears.
