trouble with teflon intake manifold gasket

I Installed a ADA Intake with the teflon gaskets a while back, Its prone to leak. The jug to manifold gasket is too soft for the small sealing area on the jug. The 2 carb to manifold bolts were torqued to 4.5 N/M, ran the car about 1/2 tank, then pulled down to 5 N/M. This is is what Zonoah calls for. The photos show the results of not enough sealing surface on the jug. The carb -manifold teflon gasket - not shown is a good set up. I installed Zenoah steel reinforced graphite coated factory gasket to replace the junker gasket you see in the photos. The carb to intake manifold bolts were toqued to 6 N/M, I could feel tru the Torque wrench that at this setting the Zen gasket was seated-. - Blue loktite was used also. Heat transfer from useing steel-graphite instead of teflon?? I live up north where its cold-- Leak free is more important anyway. Problem solved for $2.50 usd.

Damm- the photographs should say -- Jug to ADA Manifold gasket.
 
Did you trim the carb bolts? If they're too long, they'll push up against the gasket and cause an air leak. I run the ADA intake on both of my 5th scales and I've never had an air leak.

Hey guys, I just installed an ADA during my re-build. Only have 1/2 tank through it (as of yesterday), I haven't seen any leaking yet, but want to prevent.

I'm not sure how the long carb bolts could push up against the gasket, the holes don't line up...can you provide some insight?

Does the extra length of the air intake due to the thick teflon gaskets have any advantage or disadvantage?

yes, i trimmed the manifold to engine bolts so they would not bottom out, the 55mm carb to manifold bolts were ok. this could just be a isolated problem but i wanted every one to keep a close eye on this area.

If you thread the carb bolts all the way through, they'll push up against the teflon gasket that's between the head and the intake. Or it'll just bottom out like Alfred said and have a poor seal.

If you put the ADA next to a stock intake, it's actually shorter. So the thicker gaskets help make up some of the height. But, I haven't noticed any measurable advantages.
