Well when i got my Marder it had a onroad setup. Im trying to get off road ready. It had a outware cover on the filter so i bought one for the pullstart and the crankcase. I had to shell out for the Beetle undertray cause there would be rub using the stadium tires. I also bought a aluminum servo tray. What else should i get, and what about springs?

I even thought of going with the 4wd kit. Not sure yet. I'm still gonna drag with the guys but my main focus if off road. I like it way better.

Suppose it depends on your budget really. Mine is completely standard set up but with the following additions:
  • Front cable brakes
  • X-can exhaust
  • Shock socks
  • Lexan gear cover
  • Lexan radio tray cover
It goes well enough & has taken a battering :clown:

I would say give it a run 1st & see how it handles. Depending on what you are doing (rough, jumps etc) you may want to change the springs or shock oil to suit. Would recommend the shock socks tho to keep the stones & crap out.
Once you have sorted the handling you can get a performance exhaust (you don't say if you have 1!). The x-can fits nicely & doesn't require cutting away about $30 worth of your shell like you do with the samba etc :clown: Unlike the samba tho it only gives mild performance enhancement but sounds good. Oh did I say its LOUD :clown:
Alloy upgrades are entirely up to you & the limit is endless. I am waiting for some plastic to break before I consider shelling out!

Others on here have more experience than me and will prob have better advise but Im happy with what I am running at the moment.

Alloy spur carrier, plastic gear cover, front brakes (I like the extra braking for stopping but also changing attitude or angle in the air on jumps). I am pretty impressed so far with the KCR balloon springs, and as much as I dislike the name GPM, their shocks are beautiful.

just working on my vw right now. thought I would have it out for a rip but I was sent the wrong steering rod ends so waiting for the hardware store to open. I am going to make my own rods from threaded rod. I needed 6mm ends and was sent more 8mm. I have a box of 8mm ends grr.. so 8mm threade rod then. the balls don't matter...

not much else you really need to do. the on road and off road platforms aren't that much different.

I already have front cable brakes. Both alloy engine mounts, spur carrier, shocks. As far as exhaust, I have a ddm pipe. The car came with the lexan radio tray cover just have to install it. I don't think the lexan gear cover will fit over the 2 speed. As far as all alloy I don't wanna go that route. My boy did it to a nitro car once and after one good hit he bend up so much stuff I swore I would never go all alloy. I wanna say I'm not gonna beat the hell out of it but I do drive hard.

I also have a beetle marder. what is the most ideal way to rebuild shocks for general bashing.I hit mostly empty fields. mine are all stock now and im ready to rebuild. what would be the best oil front and rear? I looked on the site and i couldnt find any info. i thought i read somting from timmah but that was a few years ago. thanks fellas

As above i use the Ballon Springs and find them a vast improvement over stock and i think i use 4k oil in the rear if that helps.

Oh i forgot to say get a Tuned Pipe and you will be smiling from ear to ear .
