Hey guys, would anyone be able to give me some advice on whether I’m reading my Squish correctly? I set the zero using the dial indicator with the piston pushed all the way up to top dead center in the cylinder head (crashed against the top of the head). I used the wrist pin and needle bearing to help me stabilize the piston in the head on the reading in the pic.
Am I supposed to be reading backwards from my zero to the long needle which would make my squish .022-.024? It makes sense to me that I would only count the lines in between the 0 and the long needle but most of the videos on this are like 14 years old and you can’t see 💩 in them lol.
thanks for the help and for anyone curious this is a ESP G340rc stroker long block kit I’m trying to build.

I did want to ask as well if I am correct with the reading can I possibly go down to a .03 or .005 gasket? Or would the gains not be worth the risk? Thanks again.

On a dial indicator like that each small has is .001. So what you are reading is 22 dashes or .022".

For a plunger style like that clockwise movement is high, counter clockwise is low. So, from the piston smashed against the top at zero, and now the crank built and the head on the piston at TDC you've got .022 clearance, your reading. If you add a .005 shim you'll be at .027. If I remember the stock g320 is about .039
