my cousin just made me the cage, it's 3/8" 6061 aluminum... very strong and light, really stiffened up the chassis.

Like csp1971 said, "very clean"

Will you be fitting a body on it or just leave it like that?

I don't run a body on my tt, the redcat buggy body is uglyyyyyyy... I thought about a mcd body for looks and protection but i'll just leave it naked. no body = more cleaning.

I have a mt also turned desert truck so i'll be getting a asgard or proline desert rat for that.

thanks for the kind words.

asgard or proline are nice choices.
To tell you the truth from the look of it I don't think a race runner body will fit. I agree with you about the redcat buggy body. ;)

Chris

That is probably one of the best looking Redcats I've seen...I really like those wheels and tires.

Nice job. Just a thought.
Do you think the cage should have a bar connected to the front welded to the rear. This I think would help decrease the chances of a fall from the top squeezing the two sides out and a front hit pushing the middle and rear to the back. It looks now like it could be a incomplete triangle. You know missing the bottom. Again, just a thought.:)

ya we thought about that, I showed him a few pic's of moo's and a couple other nice designed cages but this one is simple, light and plenty strong enough for me... also eliminates chassis flex. we were going to add more but it just didnt seem needed once mounted, it's very strong, 3/8" solid 6061 aluminum. I don't catch big air with this rig, just nice smooth flowing jumps, for moo it could use a couple more mounting points, maybe. more bars / mounting points would be nice for protection also. makes it nice to pick up / carry this pig also.

I built my first cage out of alloy real similar without the bracing...it's hanging on my wall now...but i agree with Ron...it will squash down without some bracing as mine did and it'll only take a moderate roll over or roof slap to do it.(37lb + at 10mph is probably 3 times that)..when i get back home on Sunday I'll take a pic of where it buckled

here's a couple of the mt ready to come to life as a pro-4 short course or desert truck...

this will get a cage built later also, maybe more of a "moo" oriented design.

made a couple changes and more cages

my cousin made a couple more cages, they are for sale. also made a couple changes to my cage since I don't run a body... :celebrate:
