i had talked to Dan about same question, not really sure if you can, mainly cuz you have to use the 2 speeds backplate, and thus eliminating its beneficial built in layshaft carrier. you will have to use stock layshaft bearing holder or like myself i got a alloy one. turtles layshaft carrier is made into the backplate, and its backplate isnt wide enough to take the 2 speed gearing, its not made for anything but a single gearing setup.

thanks for the info. have you found any other options that would allow me to retain the 2 speed. i might just have to go with a single speed conversion. i think at this point i am just going to buy a spare set of clutch shoes and run it and hope for the best in the sand. i have read several times that if you run in the sand you need to have a enclosed clutch so you don't burn up the clutch. but i kinda dig the 2 speed option.

yah enclosed for loose dirt sand is what i hear too. if you wanna gowith the TR clutch, youll spend almost 200 in parts to go back to 1 speed, i thot of that myself, and looked up the parts on ebay through Tulare, and it come to round 180 something.

you can run a enclosed clutch with the 2 speed i did for a minute, butr i didnt have it shimmed right, locked up. i think a TR enclosed clutch will work fine with the 2 speed backplate, and you can also upgrade the plastic layshaft carrier, with a alloy one like i did.

so are you running ht eturtle set up. or witch set up did you run. got any links. i only have 2 and a half weeks till i go hom eon mid tour leave so i am trying ot get this sorted out so i can take it with me to play in the dunes while i am home

nope not turtle, i went with a metal 3 point carrier like original plastic. i didnt have a TR enclosed, the info i posted was conversation i had with Dan.

you can run a enclosed clutch, but you HAVE to use the 2speeds backplate, you CAN swap the plastic layshaft carrier out for a metal one, like i did,
but to run the 2 speed, you HAVE to use the 2 speed bakplate as thats the design it has to have to work right.

he didnt think it was possible to use a TR complete setup with 2 speed. but thot a TR enclosed carrier with 2 speed backplate could be used.

so you COULD, get a TR enclosed carrier alone, and try it, but be forewarned, that if you get the whole setup/with backplate, it may not work with a 2 speed

any luck?? like i said, you should be able to use the TR clutch with teh 2 speed backplate, if you want 2 speed thats really only thing you can do, almost any enclosed carrier should work, i had one on mine, but didnt apparently have it shimmed enough, bit into the inside and locked up, luckily, i was just making it move when it did, so shut it down and no damage.

im getting one from Dan again after the first one wasnt like in the pics, he said he had a few more of the "old style" what i got was the new style and was a bad machine job on bearin races, misaligned.

it looks so close to a TR with a few extra holes drilled here and there, so it should work.
