Hiya fellas
I have just bought some MCD,FG,Laut etc tyres and have never know anything so hard to mount in my 20 odd years of RC! Any tips would be gladly appreciated.
Thanks

I hear ya James.
First put them in hot water but not boiling, for about 10 minutes , then dry them really good.
Here is the trick, I use Talcum powder!! Works a treat and the tires come out smelling gooood :badair:
Make sure you wipe off the talc really good before gluing

Chris

I use ca gel. it sets slower so you can get them in before it sticks. after that sets the bead in I go back around with regular ca to finish the seal.

To add to pipeous' post about the CA. Make sure once you get the CA in the grove and the rubber is fit inside to wrap the tire with something (I like to use black electrical tape) so the whole circumference is nicely glued

MCD tire are the hardest to do! IMO

Fern,I have just mounted ...ONE!!!....and its took me half an hour!.
I have never done a tyre like that before.I used two flat blade screwdrivers,a mallet and copious amounts of hot water. I'm not a small bloke weighing in at 15 and a half stone but it took all my weight and strength to do just one!:cursing:

I have done 16 mcd wheels and tire (baja 1000) and if I never do 1 one it would be great :w00t::balloon:

In the basement with the gay bikers.....the fella in the box dressed in PVC/plastic? tall dude?
J.

OH Yea now I remember!! It's been a while since I've seen that movie

Back on the wheel subject you know what would help, a small pry bar. They give you these little tools here in paint shops to open paint cans on one end its like a bent screwdriver head and on the other end its a bottle opener (to get a drink or 2 after each wheel...LOL)..
Give that a shot and see if it makes it easier that is if you can find that tool!

All done! but not glued yet,...Jeeze, that was a bit of a ball acher! I only stabbed my leg once and my hand twice:oops: I am now offering a tyre mounting service. I charge £2.50 for a standard FG tyre and£250.00 for an MCD tyre!:censored:
Never again!...................................till the next set:rolleyes::eek:

 I have never had to do the buggy tires (yet). They do look like they would be a pain to stretch.

Mate, they are made like plastic not rubber,no give in them,no stretching them just purely a nightmare to do!Bit on the bright side I wont be doing them again they really are a hard compound and will last a lifetime me thinks.

James,
Sorry to rain on your parade, but your treads are on backwards....

J/K, LOL...At least you put them on the right direction. I didn't and had to re-do the stupid things.

What you said is true, these tires are a pain, but they last forever. Even the softer compound gravel I got are worth the numbness of installation..

Now go get a couple of beers and celebrate

Something Clive said about mounting the MCD hard compound tyres, cut about half an inch off the insert end......WOW....this makes things 100 times easier.
Cheers Clive.
