Tyre removal ?

Hiya fellas
I'm just in the throws of removing my old Marder tyres to make room for the MCD ones.Does anyone have any tips for getting the tyre rim out of the wheel grooves? Or is it just persistence with a craft knife?

Yes Kami it does,I put one of the wheels in to try it out and after 10 mins it came off with a little effort and a pair of pliers,just hope it hasn't made the wheel fragile.

Voo,
I would think the opposite of fragile. In RC helis i always heard to boil the skids so they aren't brittle.
Let us know how it works out..

No Zou, But if your right I wont have a problem.
I put the green rims and tyres on my Marder Beetle today and took it on grass......what a waste of time them tyres are.They are the MCD (as in pics I posted) TRAKTOR tyres and with the recent engine upgrades the thing was just wheel spinning on the spot,I'd say about 10% traction. So I bought a pair of good Marder knobblies with me and changed the back ones.The combination seems pretty good now! But its getting harder to stop it wheelying with the engine starting to loosen up,I just have to ease the throttle to get it to build up speed because if I give it WOT off the start it ends up on its roof or scrapes the rear of the shell. Still,good fun though!

Sucks to hear that the tractor treads aren't working out.. I was always debating weather to get those or not but now that you've spoken i will not be getting any.
Tell you the truth, for the gravel i went with the MCD but for the nubs i got the Duratrax tire with wheels.. They are half the price and hold up fairly well on the grass and dirt!!

Probably work better on my MCD with it being 4x4 but on the rear wheel drive cars its just not worth it.Do you have a picture of the Duratrax combination?

boiling the rims is good for them. I dye most of my rims. some rims have to be boiled or they are useless and crack easy. I was a team driver for thunder tiger. I was at a big race and my sponsor gave me some rims to use. being a winter indoor race it was really cold. my first parts broke without making 2 laps in practice. I changed the parts and rims and boiled them all and made it through the race... my skills never improved but the truck did (we really shouldn't have gone to the shooter bar the night before lol. man was I ill)
 
I have a set of the tractor tires. Not the greatest on the grass but if you were to stud them with screws then watch out!! I have a set I'll be doing that to for winter on my FG 4WD. I think they would also work well in mud! For grass the spiked tires work well as long as they ar4e a soft compound, being too hard and you'll flip it. Plus when getting spiked tires, the firehammer ones seem to be the least expensive but if you want a larger tire fro those rims you can go for the Leopard Race tires.

As for removing the tires, I think Acetone might be my next option. I have a set of balded tires which I use for pavement running. When they finally explode I'll give it a shot.

Selwa,do you have a picture of the tyres with the spikes in?I done that to a set of 10th scale and when I hit the brake on pavement there were sparks coming out of the tyres.... pretty cool. As for the removal,boiling water works killer! I have done two now and they just fall off the rims.

depends on the ca used. I have fought through some.... you can also preheat an oven to about 350. turn it off and slide the tires in on a cookie sheet. after 5-10 mins pull them out and use oven mits to pull it apart. a lot less mess of water in the foams

No pics since the tires are made yet but I did do this to my MT when I had it. Sparks flew inside the Toronto Skydome while I was there durnig the Monster Jam in 06!
