I am toying with the idea of picking up an XB-E as the scale and from what I have seen of videos interests me a lot.


I am considering purchasing this vehicle in the 8S configuration from Kershaw Designs since I am used to using 4S lipo bricks from 1/8 usage. I would also want to be able to run Baja style tires if possible.


So, based on what everyone has seen, what are the items as well as where they are carried that should be upgraded?


Also, big plus if you list the upgrade items that one youtuber listed on his videos. He is the guy that taco'd the rear brace after mudding on a 1/8 track 1/hr away.
 
The only aftermarket things I run are all of 7075RC's XB-E parts and a Castle 1717. If you want to run Baja wheels/tire get the Ramtech adapters or the 7075rc ones. Either way they got ya covered :)
 
Thanks for the info. I had heard that the stock screws are something to look into replacing, is that true?

Also, after seeing the vid on youtube where the chassis brace was taco'd, may consider that an option as well.

The screws are fine as long as you use good quality hex drivers. If shoddy tools are used they can and will strip out.

What chassis brace are you referring too and what video?
 
I use Integy drivers for the past 10 years that have that coating on them, other than the handles (older style) they work excellent. But after my experience with Academy screws, if they are similar at all in grade will want to just upgrade them right way and save the trouble of stripped one later. Plus having spares sounds good too.

On youtube there is a video I believe that has the title of mudding on 1/8 track or something like that. Basically the guy also sells upgrades for the car too pretty cheap actually and shows where he taco'd the rear brace. he didn't notice it in the video in question but a later one he did.

His upgrades though look pretty good.
 
I've had the same Integy drivers forever also and I can tell you that you will still strip some off the stock screws. I order 4mm and 5mm screws in all different sizes from www.McMaster.com in packs of 50 and 100 so the first thing I did was replace 90% of the screws.

Actually, I would like to complain about the stock screws while we are on subject. The very first thing I did when I got my XBE was remove the rear upper plate so that I can take a look at the motor mount and spur gear setup. There's 4x 4mm screws on the motor mount and center bulkhead. I stipped 3 outta 4 of them right off the bat.

Stock form, the XBE is a little slow (for most of us) and the batts are on the lower end of the spectrum. If you've already purchased 4S bricks (assuming they are of the 4-5000mah 30-40C variety) and wish to ultimately run Baja wheels all around..

The Baja wheels being larger in diameter will yield higher top speed, but running dual 4S packs in parallel will offset that (hey.. its a holiday and I'm too lazy to do an official conversion).

Based on that, if you don't own a mint or happened to stumble on a lost inheritance I'm guessing you'll do upgrades in stages. I'd opt for the 7075RC bearing carriers and C-hubs first. Can't go wrong there. Baja shoes/adaptors next while using your 4S packs in parallel.

If you go for 4 rear Baja wheels/tires all around steering response may suffer a bit. Adding an external BEC to power the steering servo is useful, cheap and also applicable if you wanted to move up to 8S later.

Finally, motor/esc upgrade along with 7075 RC motor mount package deal, and then use your 4S batts in series for some 8S stomping.

Hey Killajb,

I just want to say nice little write-up. I for see an XBE in the near future. That is a great build plan!
 
Thanks for the info. Been liking the videos I have seen. I am curious though, between the dunerunner and the xb line, which appears to have the more advanced suspension handling package?

If I go with the xb-e, I'll be using some 50C 5600mah 4S lipos, and I think one of those leopard motors.
 
I'm currently running 6s with a castle XL and leopard 1090kv motor, top end amp draw is a little high so I'll be upgrading to 8s asap to bring the amps under control, the xbe is the best buggy I have ever owned, can't get the smile off my face everytime I run it. :)

One step ahead of you there Landmissle, in fact I think I was one of the first members here to have one, I was in contact with T-bone about getting them made for the xbe before they were available,one of the best up-dates I've done. Certainly helps to save the front shock tower getting bent on bad landings:eek:
