Hi, I've been upgrading my Ver. 1 MT using the upgrade kit and noticed a few things. First it didn't come with the bag of screws so I had to improvise using my stock-of-junk rc leftover parts. Second, after upgrading the diff gears/pins/casing, the differential is not as smooth now as before with the original gear. It feels kind of notchy when you turn the wheels. This is after grease has been applied. Do you have similar experience? Will this affect go away after a few runs to break in the gears? By the way, this is a completely new MT + upgrade kit. Thanks!

hey turbo. ya, the upgrade kit doesn't come with mounting hardware as they expect us to use the same stuff we pulled off. you can get the upgraded hardware set from RAMtech, tony's screws or maybe fasteddy.

as for the diff. ya, sometimes they get chuncky. did you have a hardtime inserting the drive cup pin thats inside the plastic diff case? it seems when they don't slide right in(the pin) in makes for a not so smooth diff. the diff will wear in and become smoother with time. but if you don't want to wait, then you can open the drive cup pin hole with a small dremel bit. just a hair to help it along. 2 out of 6 of my diffs were like that( ). it does take about 2-3 tanks to loos'in up though. also the center diff gears will wear in as well. mine felt a little chunky on the bench, but they wear in in about 5 minutes.

don't hold off on installing the gear plate/vented clutch bell and venting the gear cover. that will insure your gears from melting from the clutch bell heat.. good luck

Thanks for the reply kryptonite! My upgrade kit didn't come with the grub screws for the new axle cariers, but I was able to find some long one I had for one of my rc crawlers. As far as the upgrade, all components were upgrade with the exception of the second differential because I wasn't sure if I had done something wrong with the 1st one. Now armed with your answer. I'm more confindent to proceed with the 2nd diff. Thanks again.

aak, eek.. the grub screws in the outdrives.. bastards! they should be stapled to the bag, but it seems as though you got jipped:D those suckers strip any ways. i found i was tearing down my first rig constantly, so i installed cap screws(didnt have good quality set-screws).. what also helps keep the pin in is notching the center of the pin with a dremel so the set screw has a seat(chair). you'll see that the hex from the rim doesn't cover the pin on the wheel hub. grr. rock on!! post up some pics of your new rig when you can. did you get a clear shell, or the fancy pre-painted one?

I've got the clear body. Thinking of painting it all black wth maybe two yellow racing stripes down the middle. I also got the black DDM dominator pipe. Will definitly post some pics once it is operational.
