Are the diffs on the version 2 MT any stronger than the ones on version 1? Is the truck stronger over all?

The v2 diffs are stronger. The strengthened pieces are the gears and diff pins. Also, an improved clutch bell (with holes for air), arms, bumpers, gear plate, wheel axles (which have larger set screws to hold the hub pin....basically, here is what is in the v2: http://www.davesmotors.com/s.nl/c.885035/n.1/it.A/id.5519/.f

The v2 also has dual steering servos (not the best quality).

Check out at redcatrampageforum.com for a ton more information.

I purchased the v1 MT and put on the upgrade kit, DDM Dom side pipe, and HPI Baja rims with Hostile AT tires. I sold the MT tires because they are just so darn big and heavy, I'm also tired of monster trucks.

It's a good running vehicle. Takes a few "fixes" here and there to make it more solid, but any 1/5 rc needs a little work. I outlined some of what I did here: https://www.largescaleforums.com/showthread.php?t=5203

You'll still need to temper the diff cup shafts for maximum strength in those diffs, the upgraded ones use a 1mm bigger pin that weakens the shaft at the hole....we have found tempering cures this 100%....i broke about 10 before trying to temper one, now all 4 are done i haven't broken one for months.
I agree with csp, after a few fixes (that are easy and cheap) the ramps a great basher.

I use a plumbers torch, start at the tip and heat the shaft til it starts turning blue then chase it down to the cup....I look for the silver grey colour which is just after blue (about 900f) for the finished colour...just let it cool in air and that's it. I broke my first tempered shaft last night...it's lasted about 4mths...considering the abuse it gets and with a fresh ONB ported 30.5

I think the rock strike in this short clip killed it cos it went into 2wd just after...
