Doing research and on the fence of converting my Gasser to Electric. If i did i would be using my Taylor Trans as Mike from Taylor is working on a electric layshaft for his transmission.

My quick questions for current electric owners are:
1. Is if the stock gear plate sufficient for 8S motors?
2. Other than the weight savings and bling do you see it necessary to upgrade to the HD gear plate?
3. Anything regarding the drivetrain you would want to see improved or a suggested must have upgrade?

1. I bought mine as a gas SBK and converted it to electric. The plate that comes in the conversion kit is heavy, but it should hold up just fine. I had to drill my motor mounting holes out a bit because the coating was inside them. That being said, I purchased the HD aluminum gear plate and I like it much better. It is lighter and the mounting holes were easier to line up to my motor (Hobbywing Max5 with 800kv).
2. It is not necessary to upgrade to the HD gear plate, but the HD aluminum version is nice. I wouldn't have paid full price though. I picked it up when it was on sale.
3. I don't know much about the Taylor transmission, but I put the Kraken Big Bore in mine and got hardened gears along with the "upgraded" big bore shaft that supports the extra bearing.

I think the stock drivetrain can handle 8s all day everyday. I run the Hobbywing 800kv/max 5 esc combo. It’s smooth and runs cool. I don’t hate the slipper clutch, but I am moving to the 51 tooth direct drive spur gear in the near future to see if it puts the power down better.

I don’t see a need to upgrade the drivetrain unless I go to 12s which I have no intention on doing. Yet.
