The screw attaching the gear to the clutch backed off and the gear came off. I reassembled and now I'm bot sure if this noise is normal

I removed the motor to reattach the gear to the clutch housing. When i reassembled i discovered that noise which i thought was new. I realigned everything and now it's tight and right. For the life of me i don't remember the gear noise being that loud.

Mine does that, did it out of the box, never had anything detrimental happen to mine.
And if the inserts were the wrong way round the gears wouldn't mesh at all.

No if the inserts are reversed on mine it does mesh its just too loose of a mesh and makes the gears hit each other thus making a noise. When the inserts are put in right the gears mesh correct and goes in the teeth correctly and does not hit and make a noise and runs perfectly. I just know if mine was making a noise like this out of the box I would never have run it until I found what the problem is. There is differently a problem somewhere because that is not a normal losi 5 or gears sounds.

I will get a vid of mine up in the morning, it does exactly the same and I've run mine every weekend now for 4 months and I haven't had a single problem.

That is most certainly meshed correctly.
However I have to concede that the knock you hear doesent sound normal.
I took a close look at mine this morning and mine knocks as you rock either gear back and forth, presumably because of the slight gap between the two.
Yours sounds like something either is or was caught up between the two and now has left a small indent, however it doesn't do it when you turn the wheels the other way.
You need to spin it slowly and check for slight resistance at a certain point and then check for damage on either gear.

Well, I found a couple of boogers on the pinion. filed a little bit off then ran it. All seems to back to normal. Thanks for all the help fellas.

I can't wait to see how diff the losi is with the tuned pipe. Time to start wearing the stock motor out so i can move up to a zenoah 32!!!!
