Guys I am possibly considering trading my FG MT for a HPI Baja SS or upgraded 5T.

Is a SS or 5T worth the following or should I be asking some cash on top?

FG MT with beetle body. Custom painted with alloy rear wing.
Zen crankcase with CY 30.5 big bore kit including stroker crank. Low on comp but running, if it fails before sale will include brand new G270RC (never started).
Jetpro V2 with silencer Pipe.
Spare Dominator Top End Pipe has had some repairs but works fine.
Hitec 5755 steering servo.
996MG throttle servo.
Alloy diff and metal spur gear coming this week, will be installed.
Alloy engine mounts.
Custom rear bracket.
Walbro 668.
Billet intake.
Sanyo 5 cell 6 volt receiver battery 3300mah custom made with 14 guage.
Comes with some spares.

No receiver or radio provided. Can include a spektrum reciever for something extra.

LOL im thinking of trying something different, ill have a FG Baja soon but want to experiment with the 5B/5T see what they are like etc. Plus doing doughnuts looks like fun!

I agree with Trip also, keep the FG. I 've had both the 5T and 5B and my personal opinion I really wasn't all that impressed. Just my .02 worth.

Why not get the KM Baja? you'll get alot more bang for your buck with the alloy version and they are better than the standard 5b.

keep the fg :gunsmilie: and rebuild the engine, and lock the diff mine also use to do donuts and wheelies on tap,

nothing worse than being a sheep and falling into hpi baja trap:dots:

I've got and had loads of FG's but I will admit the Baja's are allot more forgiving.

wow looks like we all have the same opinion, keep the FG and may be get a HPI down the line.

voo can you give me any examples of how the HPI's are more forgiving? not that I doubt you but just interested.

Can any of you advise how best to 'lock' the diff.
Is the variable locking FG diff suitable, or ... what are the alternatives?
I too am sick of donuts, and not just just eating them, but seeing my FG MT doing them non-stop.
I've a viscous diff in, with 100,000 wt oil in - treacle.

well ive spent allot of time with a mate who has a rovansport and been impressed with it for quite some time. it drives very different to the MT, back end is hard to keep in line but I like how it stays flat and very slidable where as my MT with the stock diff just loads up on one wheel and then spins it.

maybe ill wait and see how the FG Baja im getting goes, that might quench my sliding needs.

Pull the diff apart, clean out the grease completely, pack the diff with silly putty, poster putty, or for the ultimate lock... 2 part epoxy (JB Weld type, not the clear stuff for airplanes) You'll be snapping axles in no time!

Basically you just want to slow the spider gears from spinning inside the diff housing. The slower they spin, the more the diff is locked. If epoxy is used, the axles will be locked together forever.

Fg makes locking and viscous diffs too. But they are not cheap!

I tryied a locked diff mate, just no fun, was undriveable....

Do you still have your antiroll bar fitted at the back? if so take it out, also you could buy the adjustable diff, this is what i have and it is set to about 65% to 70% locked.

thanks for the info, what will removing the anti-roll bar do?

also this viscous diff people are referring to, this isnt the FG tuning diff is it thats worth over $500?

I've been wanting to remove the anti-roll bar - reckoned that's one thing to give it more flexibility.
Viscous diff is an option diff, but not the ultimate super expensive one you mention.
FG Viscous diff 8603, 8604

FG PowerLock diff 8605

Hobbythek have the Viscous at ~GBP175, and the PowerLock at ~GBP315.
