Hello again gyes ...

This is my little problem ...

i own 700 $ for a new or a used off road 1/5 car . i don't know what exactly to take ...
I want it for bashing and later maybe for races .What its better 2wd or 4wd ? I am more closer to 2wd because i think we don't have so much lose in running ..

With this money i saw that i can buy a brand new Fg Baja RTR with 23cm engine ..
I have see also a used FG marder with 26cm engine ,steel gears ,and tuned exhaust RTR with 450$ .
I liked the car so i am very close to buy it .I want to tell me if i must put some upgrades to the car or if it has from stock problems in running or breaking etc .
With these money i can have the other 250$ spent for upgrades ...

So what do you suggest me to do ?I think marder is a good car and with some optionals can be even better and the price of the used car is quite good ...
I am waiting for your suggestions ...

Also like FG baja .....

sorry ,i forget the time difference ...

So i just want to know if a 2wd model is driveable ...Some told me that is difficult to drive it and the 4wd is oneway ....
I am ready to take the marder .soon i am gonna post the pictures to tell me if its condition its good ...

It seems to be a 'personal thing' with 2WD or 4WD.

Some just like the ease of driving and security (relative !!) of 4WD, while others have said after a while, they want 2WD, as 4WD is too easy.

Your call.

Al.

In standard form the marder is fairly bullet proof as are all FG's. They make excellent bashers and parts are readily available if you wish to upgrade. 2wd is fine and you get good grip with the right tyres. 4wd is obviously more sure footed and predictable but it depends what you want.

Thank you gyes i think i am gonna go with the 2wd Marder ...
I know that these cars are very reliable and the have tough made parts ..
Is something in this car that hurts and needs attention? What about the plastic arms ? i need the car to drive it in a track not too much for bashing so i think that i am not gonna have problems of braking arms etc ...
What about you ?What upgrades have you made ?Brakes ?is the rear brake enough or we need front cables ?Aluminium ?is its neseccery or is only extra weight ?

the rear brake is pants, so many upgrade to front cable brakes, or but in a monster servo for the rear brake.

I have found that upper rear alloy arms vastly improve the fore/aft stiffness of the rear end.

making the radio tray flex less is usually high on the list too, be it with additional supports or putting an alu/carbon one in/.

other than that, a big upgrade on any largescale is a tuned pipe, but I'd recommend that you drive around for a month or so first before you decide if you want a torque, top end, or mid range pipe.

THe car that i am gonna buy has already one tuned pipe ...Now i don't know if this pipe gives torque high ,mid or down ....I will play and see what can do ...
For start i ll use the car as it is and then i am gonna go with alu upgrades and maybe better brakes .

the marder is a great car and can be made builitproof with a few simple mods and cash, alloy engine mounts and alloy diff are the first things you want to sort out the rest can be done as and when you have the funds.but be warned its easy to get carried away ebay is a great place to look for second hand alloy i built my car from scratch all from ebay with only a few new parts from tps

thank you gyes...
Renbar i knew that the engine mount must be changed. But the diff why?Another quest: the diff is with grease or silicone ?in my evo 08 i have self locking diff ,can this fit in the marder or we have special diffs for off road ?

About ebay i think that you are right ,but its a little problem that i don't know if the sellers can send to greece .
Otherwise ebay is a good solution for the alu upgrades ... i am gonna search a bit the ebay to see what i can find !!

its only realy if youve got a stock plastic diff case ive seen one of these explod and ended up with gears through casing, you can use the diff out of your 08 or any fg on/off road diff and most just use grease in them i do in my fg 4 plate adjustable and it works great, silicone oil just finds its way out and makes a mess, most people on ebay will send to greece but will be at a cost but can still work out cheaper than new,the alloy will make it heavy mines full alloy and very heavy but i think it helps it handle better and with the 6hp oddified engine victory pipe it flys

yes i think that with alloy you lose by gaining weight but you win in handling and in reliability ...I think that its not neseccery to make all the car alloy ..Only the things that hurt .....

Renbar you made your car alloy by yourself ?That must have cost you a lots of money ...

And about the engine i think that from stock the car with the zenoah 26cc can move quite fast ...Maybe in the future upgraded it with a tuned engine or i can put the culinder racing uprgade kit by MF raceline for 200 euros from Hobbythek!!!

no i made the car all from ebay bits and peices took me over a year to get running and two to get it how it is now just hpi wheels/adapters to finish ive also just started a on road build the same way all from bits the beetle has cost me over £2500 but i had a few problems on the way this is engine number 4 i had a runaway and hit a mates vaxhaull that cost me a fair bit in repairs to his car and the fg
