Ok been looking at air filters and a new carb and wondering what the diff is between a short and tall v- stack and intake? I have the 30.5cc stock engine. Thanks in advance.

The general rule of thumb on intakes is the taller it is the better the atomaztion of the mixture on these little engines I don't if it would make a difference, I am running a short so I cant tell you the difference

The theory is a longer intake increases bottom end power and a shorter intake increases top end power. I'm using an ADA intake, which is a bit shorter than a stock intake and I don't really notice a difference in performance.

all the words are gonna be lowercase- i am eating and do not want to get food all over the keys. i have ran the tall -1" velocity stack- and the 3/4" stack. i use the ada manifold. i prefer the 3/4" velocity stack. the 1" stack has a larger hole, it will clear the choke. the 3/4" stack has a smaller hole, it may not allow you to use the choke.

oh- there is a 3rd velocity stack sold by ddm- called a torquer stack. its not really a velocity stack-- cause there is no taper feeding the intake- looks like a cone open on 1 end- closed on the other- with a hole for the carb.

Ok, good info. Going to get an aluminum intake and a 990 carb since the 990 has no choke any stack shold be good for it. I'm not going to race but I do like more hp & torque

Thing is about the ddm torquer stack-- it could very well be the best choice for a truck- or a car on a track for that matter-- cause it does not force air into the carb. the torquer stack has a lot of dead air space- this would allow the carb-engine to take a bigger gulp of air- when the throttle is suddenly opened up--- i have never ran one, but will order from ddm and see---

Well Alfred if you do that let us know how it works. I won't be ordering anything for a couple weeks unless I find a deal I can't pass up.

Will do caveman-- Its gonna be a while -i just ordered some bolts-complete clutch-to assemble a 4 bolt today. All our carbs allready have a velocity stack built in from the factory- to a extent- the velocity stacks sorta interfere - break up the flow into the carb bore cause the surfaces are not a perfect match. - for short bursts of throttle @ lower rpms, i would lay a bet that this torquer would pull harder @ lower rpms. Gitzmotors mods the carbs velocity stack in his shop- for the wt-257. he has good photos of his modded 257 with a explaination also- i did ask him if he ever modded the 990 and sold them-- at the time -he did not- at least to the public anyway---
