Hope someone can shed some light on my recent problem with the Baja 5B.

Took the car out today hoping to have a good bash but after 5mins the rear wheel flew off, it looked like the pin that holds the wheel to the drive cup either broke or just flew out.

Does this happen often as after a quick fix with a bolt and a tie wrap (to hold the bolt in place) the other side done the exact same.

I've got two wheels held on now with a bolt though the fixing hole and a tie wrap going around and over the bolt head so it doesn't pop out.

Anyone know the part number as i'll have to order a load if they snap.

Hi mate , do you mean the little pin that goes through the hex that the wheel fits onto ???? The pin goes thru the hex and thru the rear axle ??
If it is.... there is an allen bolt head inside the end of the axle which tightens onto the pin to keep it in place. Get some good thread lock on that bolt and yark it up nice and tight !!!
Hope this helps ???:clown:

Thats the one Pete, i haven't seen any allen key bolt head, i'll look when i get chance.
Do you know where i get hold of some new pins etc.

Cheers Ian

Yeh mate, look inside the end of the axle , its hiding in there !
It happened to Pablo a couple of weeks back.... and if it happens, you will most likely find the pin stuck in the mud which is stuck to the inside of your wheel !!!! Pablo did !!
Ive seen the pins on ebay for about £4 a pair I think. I think part no. is 96504 (4mm x 24mm pin)

yea the same thing happend to me the other week , the wheel flu off but with the hub and the nut still attached the pin was gone or was it there it was stuck in the mud in the back of the wheel:):)make sure you check the wheel nuts when out bashing they have a habit of coming undone ,

Just like the fg layshaft setscrew. file it flat so more contact area. then file a small flat spot on the pin, loktite, and then shrink wrap over the pin. you won't lose them. cut a new one from an old dull drill bit... and make a couple extras while at it

Some nice tips there pipe, spot on mate. :cool2:
Defo be trying some of them.

I've just looked down the hub centre and can see a allen key, didn't notice that at all before.

You guys must be running extended hubs..........the original hubs hide the pins inside the wheel hex.........on the extenders there should be a groove machined around the hex in line with the pin,,,,,,,it's not for decoration,,,,,,slap an o-ring on there.......problem solved.

I have been through all this myself and felt like a total nufnuf!

Like pipe said file it a bit/ The shrink wrap really does the trick too for extra precaution. Although i must admit i am cheap and use electrical tape.

I think i've got the extended hexs as there is a grove running around the hex.
I got some 4mm x 40mm hardened round pins from work today, think they are too long but will cut to size.
I'm new to the Bajas so its all a learning curve for now.

My rear drive shaft popped out too yesterday so should i get some shock ties to stop the shocks from extending when in the air.

Cheers Fellas

Might be worth checking the drive shafts for "twist".
My manual says if the pins in the drive shafts are twisted over 45 degrees out from eachother, its time for new driveshafts. I think they maybe get a tiny bit shorter as they twist ??
