Trying to remove the square wheel drive hub (07136) from the axle. I have removed the set screws and tried some alcohol but they are still tight. I assume it is locktite used at the factory that is holding them fast.

Any good suggestions to break them free without scoring them up?

If it is locktite that's holding it up, you can heat it with a heat gun, hair drier or soldering iron, and that will soften the locktite. You can also grip the c cup from the back with a small vise grip pliers and use the wheel to grip the square. You can also wrap the square with Teflon tape to keep from scratching it. Just don't try that if you heated it up as you will melt the tape. Good luck. :)

If none of the great ideas listed above does not work, then are you able to turn the square without the axle moving? but it will just not pull off? If this is the case then the axle has been spinning without the square spinning and has worn a grove on the axle right in front of the square and has caused a lip which makes it a bear to get off and more then likely can not be removed with out beating the heck out of the square but they are cheap to replace. That was the problem with one of my hubs the square and set screws had cut a grove on the axle make it impossible to get the square off. I hope this helps!!!!!!!

thanks for all the suggestions. I squirted some acetone then put on a nut to protect the shaft end and gave it a couple of raps with a mallet. It came right off. Thanks
