wheel squares ?

On my truck the front is slightly wider than the rear. I noticed that the wheel squares in the rear are smaller than the ones in the front shouldn't they be the same size? The little squares that the wheel goes over.
 
What truck do you have? They should be the same but if its an FG it all depends on who had it last.They could be longer or shorter.It makes no odds really but it will if you decide to put discs on it.

Its a fg monster beetle, that i made into a fg stadium i am the second owner. It was a 2wd that i converted to 4wd. The small square gets completely covered by the rim when the wheel nut is tight there is a little bit of play. The larger square only gets 3/4 covered by the rim and there is no play. Looking at the parts manual i should have 6107/1 all around but i have 6107 and 6107/1 man there parts are confusing.
 
I put both large squares on the same side of truck and the front and rear seem even width know. I wonder the previous owner must have run wider squares in the front to help with the 2wd handling. I can't believe i just noticed this know.

It does help with a wider track at the front. Wider squares are also used to carry disc brakes.
 
I plan on picking up another set of the wider squares the wheel sits better on them and i have plans to get front cable brakes in the future.
Fg 6107/02 are these the widest fg makes maybe i will go with these all the way around?

Check out the different axles available.
It all depends if you've enough thread to tighten the nylok (or other) nut holding the wheel on.

I use the nuts with built in collars (from a well known member on the Forum!!) and find that on my FG MT I need narrower squares on the rear to permit enough thread through to hold the wheels on properly.

The fronts are often 2-position axles, permitting narrower or wider fitting.
I have larger squares on the front than the rear, as permitted by above.
You can see a groove where the E-clip can be re-positioned.

Also, don't know what other think, but on the undriven axles, I keep the squares as light as possible, using the alloy squares on the front, and the harder steel squares on the driven rears.
