hi,im after some elcon wheels, the mulispoke black with square backs, ive tried elcon, they are around 23 euro for two but are the same again in postage,so forget that, does anyone know where i can order from in the u.k,cheers.

ive looked at the harm disks, hormann spokes andmcd, but elcons definatly look best, and fit nicely not messing up the width of hormann and making it too wide, cheers

they are for the baja. i need the origonal elcon wheel, not the hex baja type, but thankyou for the heads up anyway mate, and your buggy in your avatar looks sweet.

MMR do them.....I jest bought a full set

If you're going to race the car like you keep saying then you need reliability over looks.
well, there seems to be hormann drivers that use the harm disk alot, and elcon, from what ive read and researched, hormann and elcon are both producing top quality gear, inc. wheels.im sure the elcon wheels are reliable...since elcon seem to be winning alot this year, I have already brought hormann wheels and am now going to buy elcon wheels, maybe ill check the pg racing site and order them 10 pairs since they are cheap,go in the spares box until i need them.
ive definatly mentioned trying racing a few times, but i don't remember 'keep saying im going to race, ive practice a few times, but racing isnt the do all and end all for me,im quite busy at the moment (thats why i hardly come on this forum much anymore), but im still interested in racing, theres plenty of time, plus i still am upgrading the hormann, ive got wheels n tyres now, sorted some top electrics out, servos radio gear, just pipe engine and air brakes now.but i know i don't need to do all this to start racing,im doing it to make the buggy better and also i like the upgrade \hopup side of things and all the researching, grease work involved, ive just brought a set of bulldogs, elcon astro and 2 sets of step studs tyres(for grass etc)and a set of fg knobblies . i appreciate the heads up on the hormann wheels, cheers mike.

The elcon astro tyres are good but they do explode if it's warm. The HARM disk is acutally the GRP rim.

As a starter tyre selection for racing I would recommend

Hoermann tyres....
2 pr medium spikes.......... for dry astro
2 pr medium cross & dots "
2 pr of medium dog bones for dry astro with little sand on the racing line (great tyres if you can stay on the racing line)

Then for the wet

2 pr soft spikes
2 pr soft cross & dots

HARM tyres

HARM EAGLE mediums works well on some track
HARM EAGLE softs work well in the wet
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
GRP tyres work well for some people and not others but they are still in the early-ish stages of developement

MCD tyres most people who use them only use the step studs (med for the dry & soft for the wet)

There are no hard & fast rules, it's all about experimenting. Mixing No. 1 & No.2 tyres will work great at track A but not at Track B....although the week after they might work at both or neither. You may work your way through a box with 30 pairs in it and go back to the ones you had tried just after you had a brew and scratched your head.

If it's all too much just bung some on and have a play.

FYI Don't think that Elcon, Hoermann, Contrast, FG or HARM are doing well that one is better than the other because overall it's down to the drivers not the car.

Are you coming to Notts this weekend?

thats more like the reply i like to see mike, at least now i can learn something and get something back from the thread ,cheers !
I don't know about NDOR at wkend until i get to thurs/fri, but if i do and you are there ,then it would be nice to meet you and have a little chat, maybe you can open my eyes to a few things regarding the tracks /driving / set up etc,if your not there then i guess ill still be liasing with you through here .
i have a set of cross dots, but the rc-xline wheels are definatly not 100% true, the offest of these sort of wheels look as if all the force and pressure goes straight through the outside of the wheel, but the hormanns do actually feel solid!!!!
and finally , i know the driver is the most important factor in racing ,but his skill and how well the car is performing and set up must play its roll too but i don't just mean elcon are doing well (this year/last year) because its the car,but as we were talking about reliability,to do so well your point was reliability is important. cheers
ps let me know when you are down there ,id like to watch you guys

cheers

I'll be there at a sparrows fart on saturday morning although some lads will be there partying from friday.

The Xline rims are ok and all the off set on the wheels we use (elcon, Hoermann or GRP) are all the same and designed to work with these cars to keep within the rules for width blah blah....

There is virtually nothing beween the elcon, hoermann, FG, HARM or contrast cars. With a normal/average driver set up and reliability is about 80% and driver skill is 20%. What I'm saying is that the top drivers can do well with a shoe box on wheels so it doesn't have a great deal to do with what make of car they drive. Kay Koops from Holland is a prime example, he's won most of the Dutch meetings and the European invitationals (piss up meetings in an equestrian center) when he was driving for hoermann and Eclon. Ian Oddie has won most of the BRCA off road meeting driving for HARM, Lauterbacher, Contrast and even FG in the old days so it doesn't really matter what they drive they'll do well.

1 Choose a car you like and can get bits for.
2 Make it reliable
3 Learn to drive it
4 Practice
5 Practice
6 Practice
7 Take advice from people who know
9 Practice
10 Only fit things to your car that will make it more reliable, quicker or better to drive
11 Practice

If you want to get on in racing then you need to be doing lots of club meetings really before you jump straight into doing the nationals to gain the experience, once you're at the stage where you think you can enjoy racing at a higher level then be prepared to do all of the above and travel up and down the country and into europe.

ok mate, i know i need to do club meetings, even then ,theres nothing saying i would be competitive enough to even attempt the nationals, i know its taken guys years and years to get to a good level.
well ive finally found a car that i do like, and like the way it drives/behaves, i took the marder out after a long time yesterday and the way it performs in comparison is pants! but im sure theres alot more in the hormann regarding setup, but i guess i wont know until ive put many hours in practising to find a good set up,the previous owner used to race this buggy, you probably know him.
Im upgrading it to make it drive better/be reliable, thats why i shelled out for the new tonegawa and futaba 4pk,refreshing all bearings ,bushes screws etc, ive spent 100 quid on stuff you don't even see, which id never ever do before on my other cars, but i want it to drive precise, like it was when it was new.
Also i know wheels are very important,so am injecting some hard earned into that area(oh,i couldnt find the hormann wheels deal on pg racing!!) i can buy bits i need here and there, even with just a pipe id be happy,i don't need an oddie 26 straight away as its hard to drive a track with a standard 26cc, in bashing i can put any engine in as its easy to drive when flying around a huge field, but ive decided to leave the marder for that. well i need to practice, and upgrade a few things and am definatly up for taking advice off people whom have something informative to say from experience.
well im after a sambe laydown pipe or rn fat tuning pipe ,do you know of anyone who has one for sale at a good price, the hormann pipe is very, very reserved! both these pipes stay within the shell so are ok(ive read the rules/regs for brca and efra).

ok,thanks for the info/advise, if theres anything else you think i should know, then let me know.
cheers Taz

cheers.
