hey guys :)

ok my diff is way past its use-by-date!

one im using at the mo is stock but with steel sleeve, done me proud for a good 6 years, but now its time for a shiny new one!

Anyway been looking at the ones below, i don't want an adjustable one as it means i would have to use risers or cut my chassis & don't wanna do that. Main use will be for bashing etc.

1st one is this (on offer at the mo usually about £150 but its around £80 at the mo) :

One im leaning towards is the 1st which is on offer, i will be also getting some 300k diff grease to slap in, any thoughts :) ?

ta mate gunna order it later from hobbythek :)

what grease did u use dude? im thinking of the FG one from hobbythek (300k) cuz it want it stiff :) ?

I'm not entirely sure what diff grease to recommend but i did used ofna diff lock lube in it (roughly 500,000 wt grease) and it still leaked out so i just use wheel bearing grease, works just fine.

The FG grease is a rip off so just get some LM2 grease from Halfords mate - Castrol, Comma or similar. Its about £6 for a 500g tub that will last you years!! Pack it full & silicone seal round the ends on completion to stop any leakage. Just done mine a few weeks ago & it works well.
 
first off i don't see any difference between the 2 diffs other than first one has a heavy duty sleave if you wanted to save a bit off money then you can just get the alloy center part this will only cost you less than half what you looking at then just swap all youre old insides over [if there ok still] there the same gears inside as the stock diff
 
yep the recommended FG grease is very expensive :w00t::w00t:

this tube was +£50......any good quality muli-purpose grease will do;)

the pics of the 2 diffs look like just standard diffs with the alloy upgrade

I have that type of diff and have had good luck with it. Make sure to do the silicone mod and either cover will work. The thicker cover is worth it though.
 
i ran ofna diff lock lube in my alloy diff in my touring car, that stuff is too thick to pour and it still leaked everywhere. honestly the adjustable limited slip is a better diff, no screwing with fluids, just adjust it with a wrench and away you go. cutting the chassis out isnt that big a deal, or just get the diff riser. i think if your going to spend the money on a good diff, go for an adjustable self locking diff. (8500/05, 8501/05)
 
oddified mag diffs are great, the smoothest locking diff out there. they work great for on and offroad racing, however the price tag is higher than most can justify for bashing. i priced one a wile ago, iirc it was around $375 canadian.
