i don't like the carb on my redcat xb. it's a fuelie 30.5 and i was thinking of the 813 but i've never had one. how do you think this carb would be on it? i have the jetpro side pipe already installed.

Walbro 668 and 813 both good carbs but i think the most popular carb is 668 easier to tune and holds it tune well

The Walbro 668 is the most user friendly carburetor. The 990 that comes on the new Zen is all so a good one and is like the 813 but does not have a accelerator pump.

why is the 813 more difficult to tune? and how much harder is it to tune? will it give much more power than the 668?

I did a good bit of research on carbs. From what I was told the 813 has a lag when you nail it which I think has to do with the accelerator pump putting a squirt of fuel in it all at once. This might be why they are harder to tune. The 990 does not have this lag. I had a NEW never run 813 sold it and bought a 990 which I have not installed yet.

Both the 813 and 990 do not have a choke for better flow. Those I talked to about the 813 50% of the people like them and %50 did not. Those I talked to about the 990 90% of the people liked them and said they are much easier to tune then the 813. The 990 is what comes on the new Zen motors.

From those I talked to said a good performance carb makes a difference but not that much and some may not be able to tell the difference. The 668 is a very user friendly carb. Is the engine on your Red Cat made by CY? I know on the HPI baja the engines are called fueling but are made by CY.

ya it's a fuelie 30.5. the jetpro side pipe really made her come to life but i wanted to upgrade the carb. i'll order the 668. thanks. i put a f270 4 bolt in my baja and only running the stock stinger pipe and all i can say wow, so i may look that way next year or maybe one of the o'neil long rod 7hp motors. gotta love more power.lol

Just looked on RedCat web site and they are not CY engines or made by CY. Yes I have heard on the clone engines the carbs are not real good.

i've had my f270 for about 4 months now. i love the thing. 1 pull with the choke and 1 pull without and away she go's. i run it rich and she still pulls the wheels (if i can get tracktion). i run hostle mx's on the rear and all it does is spit grass and dirt everywhere. i think i'm going for a jetpro for it, can't wait to see it with that.

How many gallons do you have on your F270? You said it is in a baja? Have you looked at the CPI pipes? I have both standard and big bore CPI pipes for my 5b SS. Right now I have my 30.5 I built with a race ported OBR kit with the big bore CPI. When I was running the stock Fueling 26 with the standard CPI pipe I twisted the SS dog bones.

maybe 1 gallon. haven't had alot of time. been remodeling the house, my son is now 4 months old (still not sleeping all night), work, and racing at 2 clubs on weekends. plus i've been playing with the new redcat xb, i love that car. i haven't even touched my firehammer yet this summer, i think it's feeling lonley, lol. my buddy had a cpi and i can say that your right, it was like night and day with his motor. the only thing is it's alittle loud for my area. this one ain't bad and i can put a silencer on the one for the baja.

No what you mean I raised three girls as a single parent. The reason I am so inquisitive about the F270 is I have read some have had problems with it. I hope you are not one of them.

when i ordered it i talked to 5thscalecanada and vancouver hobbies and both of them said that the f270 was identical to the zenoah g270. it was alittle cheaper and they've had all good results with it. brad at 5thscale told me he ran both and prefered the f270. as far as i'm concerned you can get a lemon in any brand. i had a high end hitech servo go up in smoke on me for no reason, so i replaced it with a traxxas servo (yes you read correctly) and the dam thing still works great. i had a race ported 26 zenoah witch was great, then i pooched it and rebuilt it with a race ported 28.5 cy head kit and it would have chewed up and spit the zen out like nothing. where as my buddy's 23 zenoah is untouchable.

Here is one of the many threads I read about the F270.

cy had a bad batch and i've heard the same thing about zenoah's. i look at it like the old saying about the big 3, never buy a monday or friday car, only buy a wednesday built car. there will always be a lemon. my 28.5 cy has got about 7 gallons through it. i run it in my firehammer, witch i put a 16t transfer gear on it(up from the 14t) and i put redcat rampage mt tires on it witch are alot taller then the fh mt tires and that thing still pulls wheelies and tears up the grass with just a stock can on it. i've never had a problem with cy or zenoah. as a matter of fact my 23 that was in my baja has about, if i was to guess i would say atleast 20 gallons through it. i ran it for 2 seasons and the guy i baught it from ran it for 1 season and really all it needs as far as i can tell (cause it's lost some topend but still has lots of bottom end and runs good) is a new ring. and that was the stock 23cc that came with it.

All I have right now is 4 CY engines and so far I have not had a problem with any of them. I have a stock CY 26 with well over 6 gallons on it and when I took it out to put my 30.5 in was still running strong. Just that I have read more bad about the F270 then any other CY engine in years. I do hope yours is one of the good ones. Let us know how it is working for you after you get 6 or so gallons on it.

well i'll get some more play time in soon, i'm done remodeling the living room and the kitchen. now i have to do the deck and the garage roof but that's going to wait till this fall and the basement is a winter project.
