Well, it had to happen sooner or later. You could say that I have officially "broke-in" my ShredderXT! A great day of bashing came to a sudden halt when I misjudged a fence pole and took a front end strike at 1/2 throttle. There was no damage to the body or any other cosmetics, but the front suspension was a different story.
I managed to rip one of the lower A arms partially off its mounting rod and twisted the upper A arm mount to a partial tear. The dogbone released from its drive socket and bent.
The good news is that Redcat has all the parts I need and the total cost is less than $15.00. The bad news is they are charging me $13.00 to ship them. I think that is obscene! I know the parts are coming from China, but lets face it. These parts are almost small and light enough to send in an envelope. That 13.00 is the CHEAPEST shipping option they offer. If I wanted them overnight.....well, buckle-up now......$97.00!
OK....I saved alot of money buying a chinese made large scale RC, but if I can't get parts from somewhere here in the US, maybe it wasn't such a good deal. I like their product and I like that there are parts available and that they have good customer service, but come on.....lets get real on this parts thing.
OK...thanks for listening to my rant. Hope this experience helps someone down the road.:(

For real u r complaining my friend?

That is a super deal for 1/5 scale parts. That is fleamarket price....

Let me guess, You bought exactly what broke. Of each of the 4 nitro cars I got at least a spare set of front and rear complete suspension including shocks (struts) is on the shelves. That is not counting gears, pins, chims etc.

So if you know it is from China and shipping is at least 10 to 15 bucks make the habit on every other paycheck stock up parts. Hey its a hobby, don't let it stress you out. In a way that is why I got a few nitros to bash with the other RC during shipping waiting time if at all.

Thanks for the comment crank. I was complaining about the shipping cost not the parts. I know they were cheap. Yes, I only got the parts I need to fix it for right now. I lost my job last month and finances are tight.
I realize this hobby is expensive. I have been in this hobby for over 25 years now. I just think it is rediculous to spend as much for shipping as the cost of the parts themselves.

Yeah, I know how you feel, I ordered some parts for my car, about $30.00 worth, all plastic, (spur gears, paid about $15.00 for shipping, then I get an email telling me that I needed to send $100.oo more for shipping, I guess you know where I sent that chinaman.

This is the very reason, I went with a baja clone and also I hate waiting on parts from China - heck sometimes they take a little over a week and sometimes a little over a MONTH!! Considering how valuable nice weather is to us here in the North, that is just too long and then what if there are some issues with the new parts?? ie. wrong parts, etc. - then what? Not bashing on you but I'm just saying :)

Good luck and hope u get your 'cat on the road again :)

OK....so I got an e-mail today showing the tracking for my parts. The scheduled delivery date is this friday. We'll see what happens. The funny thing is that it also shows the parts are shipping from Phoenix, Az. here in the states. I ordered the parts from the company in China and they are shipped from here in the states. I guess that is good. That eliminates the long wait and customs, but if the parts are shipping from the US and the package is only 1lb., why was the shipping cost so high? Something fishy going on here. I think I paid China shipping for a US distributor. That should also mean that parts should be readily available at most LHS's.
I am probably making too big a deal out of this, but it just seems strange.
As long as I get my parts in a reasonable time, I probably shouldn't complain. You know what I will be doing this weekend! :D

Wow! An extra $100.00??? I would have told him where he could shove those parts for that kind of shipping. Glad you handled it. I think i would have had to get all Kung Fu on his butt!

The company in china is probably a redcat dealer and he just had them drop shipped to you from redcat because phoenix az is were redcat is located. For lower shipping you can contact redcat directly and if is small parts they will ship them through the postal service and it will be cheaper. I usually get parts in 3 days when I order from redcat.

$13 is nothing for shipping. pretty much all my hobby stuff i order online, the 1/5 scale stuff generally comes from germany or brittan, the smaller scale stuff is all out of the states. i don't think ive ever paid less than $10 for shipping , no matter how small the item is.

keep in mind its not just shipping, its shipping and handling. your paying for someone to purchase the packaging, pack it, then pay the postage.

Well, I got my parts this morning. I must say I was surprised to find two parts in each package. That makes this a better bargain than I originally thought and gives me some spare parts for the future. :D It took me 3.5 hours to finish the disassembly and reassembly. All the screws are hex head and I don't have the long T handle style tool. I have the standard L shaped tools. To replace the upper A arm support, I had to completely disassemble the cover for the front diff.. The engineers did a good job of sharing mounting screws with mutiple parts to lessen the number of screws. The down side is that you have to disassemble more parts than you are replacing. Its all back together with no left-over parts.....hmmmm... must have messed up somewhere. LOL
Looks like its back to having fun! Just in time for the weekend.;)
