the wt-813 carb has a hole in the rear of it thats not well covered by the papper gaskit or the ada gaskit, the hole im talking about is where the thottle shaft goes thru the carb and where the accelerator pump is operated from.

it looks like my zen sucked dust and sand thru the carb as there is dust and sand on the throttle shaft and the rear hole on the throttle shaft is full of sand and dirt and the throttle linkage is hard and gritty to move.

i know no sand has come thru the stock filter as its all clean,.

there is no sand on the front of the carb and no sand on the plastic airfilter stack

no sand on the insdie of the airfilter and airfilter set up and there was not sand on the carb gaskits.

ive gone right thru the engine, carb and airfilter set up, and it looks like to me the sand and dust has gone thru the carb, throttle shaft and the hole for the accelorator pump,

i do now rember reading this on the hbf forum over 9 months ago, and i brought a 813 carb yonks ago befor ready this and noticed this hole, but i gave it to a mate who was having carb issues and im sure you can fix or block the hole off and sand prove it, but i had forgotten all about this, and to be honest i didnt know what they where talking about.

but in my opinion for bashing the wt-813 carb is no good straight out of the box, but great for clean track onraod racing and in boats, but not good for bashing, with out modification.

i will be going back to the wt-668 carb as i know its good i don't have to mod it and reguarly perform maniance on it and have used them lots for many tanks, and in my mind i will not buy another wt-813 for bashing as i feel this is why my zen has failed, due to my lack of knowlage on the wt-813

guys i would think about modding the wt-813 carb or swapping it for the wt-688 carb if you mainly want to use it for off road and beach work, or just keep an eye on it, now this could be fixed with some good grease or a patch, mabe glueing some gaskit over the hole

all the zen 4 bolt owners with 813 carbs and all the boys runnign 813 carbs just be careful and every one considering a new 4 bolt, think about modding the carb or go with a 668 carb, as im sure im not the only one who has had or will have this problem ?

im not saying every one will has this problem, but its some thing to look out for, here are some pic,s on what im talking about, the hole isnt covered by the stock gaskits and is covered less by the ada manuifold gaskits, and this carb has excessive play in the throttle shaft for how much use it has

this is what im talking about, near where the screwing driver is

im not bagging the zen 4 bolts as they are a top motor by far, and im not bagging out the wt-813 carb, as its good it just has a weakness for bashing, and can be esy fixed with some silicone

You will have the same on all the carbs...with that same hole in the back not just the 813
so put a dab silacone in the hole..let it cure over night..your good to go the next day..
or if you can find a small plug to put into the hole and then silacone over the plug.....
Thanks benckie for bringing this up.....slawhammer

they only carb ive come across that has this hole is the 813 as its where the accelerator pump ball bearing, plate and spring go, no other carb has the same accelerator pump and no other carb has the same hole in the rear of the carb for rc use

its a simple fix like i said, i fixed mine with silicone after my new g270rc was damaged due to sand and dirt wearing down the throttle shaft and letting crap into the motor.

the hole on the rear of the 813 is less potected when using ada manifold and when other carb gaskits are used, but its a simple fix.

but cause of this problem i can not remomend the 813 for offraod use in sand unless its been modifyed

Opps my mistake...I had 2- 813 carb mixed in with a couple of 668 carbs..in a bag
I looked at the carb body for the carb number....sorry my friend........
But you do have a valid point on that carb......Slawhammer

813 carb is a good carb and its an easy fix, back when this happened i was just a little disapointed my g270rc failed befor its time due to the 813 carb

theres a problem with silicone when it comes in contact with petrol it perishers after a bit if petrol doesn't go any where nere the hole it shold be ok the hole must be there for some thing if i was you i would try and find out before plugin it

i used a silicone, the same gaskit goo i use for copper head gaskits its fuel, oil and heat resistance and good for 240 degrees

i droped a couple small drops of oil onto the throttle shaft so the gaskit goo wouldnt stick to it, then filled up the accelerator pump hole with it and let is dry 24 hours.

the ada manifold i used only covers around 1/3 of the hole, but i got 25 tanks with out this mod 17 fine tanks after the mod 41 tanks out of the carb intotal, the carbs had two throttle shafts thru it and the carb body is now worn and its been retired

every time i run a new engine or a new head i record how many tanks i have used from full to empty.

when my wife brought this g270rc for me it was a big thing so i markd down the tanks, i got 25 tanks till it was killed by the carb sucking sand and then another 16.5 tanks with the same carb with a new throttle shaft the rebuild and modded g270rc in my fg mt befor it locked up (but not a lean seize), after 42 tanks the carb was worn bad.

i ran over 330 tanks in one year through a fully modded km baja and it had over 8 major full rebuilds pluss broken parts and over 20 some thing engines.

i get some guys saying they run there for a year no worries but i wonder how many actual tanks they run, you will be suprised on how many tanks you actualy run, i found its less then most people think

ive got a race ported g260rc ready for my fg mt and ill record how many tanks i ran it from full to empty till it first rebuild, then i wack in another bash ported head and record how many tanks i get out of that.

i know i need a life

i usualy don't work to much or work 4 days on 4 days off or it works out around the same.

i used to sell clone bajas and tested alot of parts and engines and had heaps of spares i would drive to an from work with my baja in the boot of the ford and take every chance i could to ran it,

even on long trips i would put it in the boot of the car and every truck bay or park pull it out and trash it

in the time ive been waiting for my tps order i could of ran an easy 20 tanks

Jeeze Benck, thats some detailed note taking on the engines.I didnt know you were a bit of a guru on them. You said in your post you sold clone bajas, which clones were they?
and how did they preform? I have heard different veiws on them and would like a bit more info if you would.

i was a sponcered 1/4 scale driver, ive been playing with rc stuff for 20 odd years, ive been playing with hpi baja 5bs and clones for well over 2 years now close to 3 and i have ran over 25 motors in the last 12 months, i use to build a mean motor for my customers, and some of the motors i have built and some i have modded are running around australia.

i have tryed and built many motors ive also has some very heavly modded motors there is 3 top motors i have found even over the heavy modded motors

1 g270rc
2 g260rc
3 gp290 or the 30.5cc witch has the gp290 head

the best clone for the best plastic in the km baja.

the cheapest clone with the all the fruit is the rovan baja, but they have bad plastic

the sq baja diff parts are exchangible with hpi and so is rovan, but the sq has bad plastic

km was the better clone untill they swaped out the all in one crank case engine, and changed some plstic parts, these motors have been very unreliible in australia, with harsh, hot ruff condiontions.

the sq baja has a cy clone motor, and so does the rovan, these days even though the km had better plastic but beacuse of the motors i would recomend the sq or the rovan.

but out of the rovn or the sq baja i would recomend the rovan, as it has extras, like alloy diffs sway bars and a cy clone motor.

i have also tryed the rampges, tq, and the smatect trucks and as few other clones and didnt bother trying to sell any of them.

but i would sugest if ou have the money to afford geniune car buy it, the clones are good to get people into the hobby, but the more you spend upfront the less you spend later.

the fg mt is better built then the hpi baja
