wanting to know if x-cans and high flow mufflers can ever be close to perfoance pipes power wise.

i love how x-cans etc are never in the way when doing work and are easy to remove etc. i hate how long it takes to jet my jetpro on and off, the flange bolts are a prick to get to and forget working on the rear of the car with it on.

i know this wouldnt be an issue with a x-can or the likes and if I do need to take it off I don't need to squeeze my fingers into impossible positions to get the bolts out!

I run the X-can on my bashers, but if I am racing I use the Flowsystem Racing side pipe. It all depends on how much you want out of it.

I have the x-can and it gives a mild bottom end performance increase over the standard pipe. I went for it because I could fit it without hacking half the body shell away to install it like you do with the sambas etc. I think it sounds good too  It is as quick as my mates all ally 29cc with a samba probably due to the extra weight he is carrying with all the bling :D Overall Im happy with it but then again Im not as serious about the hobby than most on here due to work commitments.

I think the X-Can is a cracking bit of kit, looks nice and neat, is tucked away out of trouble has a reported decent bottom end and is half the price of a good tuned pipe. For bashing it is hard to beat.

My next large scale will probably be another SS and I have often thought the X-can would be the choice for me.

Here's mine

the Xcans worry me. they do preform better than the stock cans, but lets face it, they are not a Tuned Pipe, but rather a Tuned Stock Can. but they do ok.

my Biggest worry, and it a legitimate worry, cuz ive seen it happen a few times) is the xcans in ability to keep debris from going thru the can and into the motor.

ive seen motor failures cuz sand/dirt got into the Xcan, and went straight into the motor via the exhaust port.

That looks familiar Andy?

Thought it might matey! It works well enough for me

As you say, the x-can is basically a tuned stock can so would the same not happen with the stock can fitted? If so, why would the likes of FG design them that way as these are off-road buggies for use in dusty, dirty sandy conditions??

thanks fellas, lots of different opinions, I like it.

i put a bit more thought into it last night and think maybe a two peice pipe might be the go, prolly better perforemance than x-can and i don't have to remove the header bit which is the pain in the a** bit for me.

now to just find a good 2 peice pipe compatible with the FG Baja 4WD!
