Thanks, I'll look over there. I don't necessarily need great quality, I just want to be able to drive the car further away. Right now, when it's at 300ft, I can't really see what I'm doing...

a consideration of operation, more of a safety element for those that might be around you. line of sight operation IS the limits of operation thats acceptable for public use.

in the right environment(areas without general public access)may serve better for FPV use. though the technology is out there, flagrant use puts YOU and those around you at risk. interference as mentioned can turn disastrous. just be aware of the what you are creating... surface or air. in the element of super cool deluxe fun, ALWAYS remember safety for yourself and those around you.

I don't intend to use it out of sight, mostly just something the gadged freak inside of me would like to have :) )

Now, a couple of questions for you guys: I went out today and took the advice I got here to check the spark plug's color in order to ensure I'm tuned correctly. However, I think I messed up a bit: I killed the engine while it was close to max revs, after keeping it WOT for a few seconds (HSN is at 1 1/2). I took the spark plug out (see picture below), put it back and then the engine would not start. After thinking about it for a few minutes, I realised that I might have flooded it by killing its spark at such high revs (I'm guessing that after losing the spark it kept on pumping a lot of gas into the engine until coming to a stop). The tip of the spark plug was not wet, but the thread was. Also, after putting it back in and removing it again the plug would come back wet. I turned the car over (almost over, not completely upside down), pulled the pullstart a few times, there was some "puff" coming out from the spark plug hole, looked like smoke but probably pulverised gas, installed the plug back in and still no dice (removed the plug again and it came out wet). Now, for the questions:

  1. How does the color of the spark plug look to you?
  2. Am I right that I flooded it?
  3. If so, is there anything else I can do to get it started, or just leave it alone for a few hours?

Another unrelated issue is that I went to a different playground today and I got awful range from the radio. Anything more than 200ft and it was gone, killswitch would kill the engine. No houses or anything around, just a huge field. There were however some power lines right overhead, could that be the reason why? Would a better radio (such as a Futaba) make a difference in such a situation, or is it just that some areas have very high interference and that's that?

if it was really hot and you killed it(at WOT) the heat would dry out things and be dry not flooded.

WOT kill is plug cleaning attempt, kind of old school, so it heats and blows plug clean like your pic exhibits, perfect color, tip looks ok , a bit out of focus though, maybe a fraction rich. overall in a good play range

the antennae may be fractured if range is shrinking . signal should clean even in large static field. futaba is the answer ! play safe and demand everyone around you offer same behavior, its a gadget heavy world good judgement keeps the fun flowing.

Thanks for the input, glad to hear the plug looks ok, I'm gonna try to lean it out a little more and see what that does.

Regarding the not starting - if you say killing at WOT wouldn't flood it, any idea why it wouldn't start? I just ended up leaving it alone for ~3 hours and when I went back to try again, it started like a champ. Actually seemed to run a bit rough for a few seconds but then it cleared out. I never had any issues getting it started, seems really weird that it happened right as I killed it at WOT... (altough the throttle was no longer open, I let go of the throttle hammer and immediatelly pushed the stop switch... so it was at high revs, but not WOT).

For future reference: I read on another website that in order to start a flooded engine, you need to keep the throttle wide open while attempting to start it. Does this sound right to you? If I go out to the track and flood it for some reason, it would suck to just wait 2-3 hours before using it again.

Regarding the radio, I'll try again in another area and see if the problem is still there. The antenna has no reason to be broken, I didn't roll the car over. I really hope this is not a flysky issue as I was really keen on upgrading to the FS-IT4S... :( A telemetry-enabled futaba is waaay over what I'm looking to spend on this...

a quick restart on hot motor. ...not everytime but usually instantly fires

squeeze WOT -->ONE SNAP PULL.

release throttle IMMEDIATELY as fires almost at same time.

RX failure most likely , new RX maybe $10.

futaba TX/RX 3prka easy, effective , like 70$ . it is feature light but solid hardware

Yet another DuneRunner :)Good tip, I'll try that. I did notice that sometimes it's reluctant to start when it's hot... I leaned it out a bit, how does this look to you?In the sun:View attachment 7709In the shade:View attachment 7710

Why do you need telemetry? For what features?

Well, I obviously don't *need* it :) I'm just a bit of a gadget freak as I said and seeing my speed & rpm seems pretty nice :) Monitoring engine temperature also seems like a good thing.

What do you think of the spark plug color above? From my 1st-time-owner-of-2stroke-rc perspective, it looks good but I guess you guys saw more than your fair share of plugs and might think different :)

Speed is nice to have, but rpm and engine temp don;t mean a thing.

I have never looked at my plug. I'm more of a sound type of tuner. And my engine builder is usually with me at big events, so he takes care of the tuning.

I run the Futaba

Been using Futaba since the Tamiya Frog and Hornet days

plug is fine, powdered ash light on insulator with clean clear tip .

as the stock carb ages (100-150hours plus) it will be harder to hold a tune and start leaking.

get fresh plugs good to have them handy.

do the shreadstacks bring any benefits, other than easier access to the filter (and maybe better clearance for the servo linkage)?
