I saw Vai play with Zappa when he first started. He was just a kid. Small place with 2000 people. Never seen a band do this... got on stage, said check this out, this is our new album and nobody has heard the tunes yet, tell us what you think. That was about the coolest convert I ever saw.

I have every recording Satch ever did. When I was playing hockey, I use to listen to Satch before I played always. I felt if I could play with flow like him, I'd have a great game.

surfin with the alien... that's when the alien inside takes over and you just step back and watch yourself play

wow i would have loved to see zappa play live but the great man passed away a year or so after i got into his music, his son dwesel do,s an od tour , playing his dads music , he gave his kids the coolest names:clown::clown:

Isn't his other son called "Moon Unit" ? I'm sure my mate told me that. How cool is that ?!!!!
Yeh Zappa was a legend.

Respect to you Pipeous...... a true Satch fan.
When I first got into him, i listened to nothing but him for about 6 months !! Got all his albums.
I learned all the tracks on "Surfin" (on the drums !, NOT guitar!!!) and annoyed my parents no end by slapping my headphones on and drumming to his tunes over and over until I knew them inside out!!!! Satch boogie was a female dog to learn but got it in the end!!. Satch has worked with some stunning drummers, my favourite probably being Jonathon Mover. He is incredible!!!

Satch boogie is tough to play any part me thinks. I have the tab and getting past the first few bars is a challenge. Can't slow down is more my pace ;) ... until he gets fast. Broken my left pinky so many times detailing now I have to play more like Clapton (ever watch him, he rarely uses his pinky)

I like so many artists and bands. I keep my 6 string acoustic cutaway here in the garage to plunk on when I feel. electric is in the house.

Zappa was a long time ago at the Orpheum. Late 70's. I played the bars for a lot of years. My brother actually made the charts. They travelled with Trooper, BTO and others. I got to meet those guys as a kid. Only the top 40 band ever got to play much. I like Fusion like Bruford, Adrien Belew and such but not many gigs to be had playing freak music hehe but a lot more fun to play than 4/4 crap all the time

Ah,heres one of Joey Jordisons drums solo, must be so disorienating!:scared::huh:

I play a little guitar too, but drums are my thing. Played in various bands since the age of 11 ! Spent years doing the local Gigs thing. Really enjoyed it but not doing it so much now. These big toy cars have taken over !!:clown:
One of my ambitions was to be able to play a few tunes with Satch on guitar !!
While I remember, if you like Satriani, you will love Mark Bonilla !! I think he has only done one album ("Ee Ticket") which is Awesome ! Might be hard to track down now as its quite old... but Well worth it !!:clown:

I found lots of Bonilla on youtube, listening now, and that Canon tune rocks too.
Cool Bonilla is a lefty. A friend of mine is a cousin of Lenny Bruce. Dude can play left handed or right handed and can play a left handed guitar right handed and a right handed guitar left handed (strings upside down). I will have to swing by his place for a visit sometime soon and get him jammin and get a vid to show.

what I found an interesting thing was about half of the hockey goalies I know were guitar players. are we that strange? LOL
