Hi

Thinking of getting steel gears (pinion and spurs) for my 2 speed from Big Boys Toys. Anyone has experience with these steel gears? suggestions? reviews?

Cheers

Hi, I don't know if there are steel gears (spurs) for 2 speed, but you can ask for someone with the right equipment to make them.
I use steel gear (1 speed only) and it works really good, the only problem it's the noise made by them.

cheers

Nope, from day one I switched to alloy. Never regretted it. I would say the only thing I needed to watch was that my grubs didn't come loose and the gear spin. Filing the grub flat and using locktight solved all the problems.

If you buy these let me know and we can go halves in the shipping as I would love a set of those also.

I believe you only need to change out the gear plate and large motor mount to FG. The two speed should have the rest. With the power you had better upgrade the diff cage if you haven't already. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHUB2&P=PU

Here are the available FG 2 speed gears and numbers: http://j.b5z.net/i/u/2162054/i/2_Speed_7451_Off_Road_Manual.jpg

Here is a photo of a FireHammer with 2 speed.:cool2:

No prob...
You will notice in the last photo the person fitted the FG alloy uprights to take out some of the flex on the rear end. Since this is not the MT you will have less flex from the smaller tires, but the only real way to remove completely the flex is to upgrade the rear lower arms to alloy and you could also install the risers to move the upright rod higher away from the gears. Here is a photo of the rear of an FGMB/FG buggy with this setup I am not sure if the risers work with a 2 speed though? You should be ok with the buggy though it is a bigger problem with the FGMT and the bigger tires.

Here is the rear arm flex I'm talking about, gets worse the older the arms get on the MT. You will see the flex toward the gear allowed by the plastic lower arms.
