Not sure what happened to my current throttle / brake servo, The throttle servo began acting erratic and then just stopped working.

Anyone have any advice or tips?

The servo actually has gone to full brakes applied.

Im wondering if my transmitter battery is getting tired and defaulting to the brakes for fail safe?

I guess its possible.

Servo is Hosed.
Last night I plugged another servo from another rc car into my Rovan just to check that the control trigger was working and to see if the servo slot was getting a signal, everything checked out so it appears the throttle servo is shot.

Ive been considering adding front disc brakes, Front disc brakes will need a stronger servo so now is gonna be a good time to upgrade that servo.

Not even gonna contact Rovan about the servo failing, Ive run about 3 gallons of fuel through the little Rovan and have burned about half of the tread off the rear tires.Perhaps If I had only run the Rovan a few times then I suppose I would let them know the servo failed but honestly the Rovan has been up and running everyday for nearly a month solid.
I could prob get another throttle servo from Rovan for $20 bucks or so but im just gonna upgrade to a stronger servo.

If you look under the go-ped tab they also do a deal of the week, that changes Friday afternoons. I have gotten some great buys on DOTD!

Thanks Buzzsaw for the tip. Very cool.

Just got back from one of the Hobby Shops and picked up a Savox SW-0231MG for $40 bucks.

It looks a tad bit taller and is waterproof.

The specs are about the same as the Rovan RS-1015.
Rovan RS-1015 is 15kg and Operating Speed: 0.24sec / 60degree (6.0V no load)
Stall torque: 250 oz/[email protected].

The Savox specs are
Torque @ 4.8v - 12.0kg/166.6oz-in
Torque @ 6v -15.0kg/208.3oz-in
Speed @ 4.8v - 0.20 sec/60 deg
Speed @ 6v - 0.17 sec/60 deg
Dimensions L x W x H (mm): 41.8 x 20.2 x 42.9
Weight: 66.0g
Gears: Metal
Bearing: 2BB
Case: Plastic
25 Tooth Spline.

Anyone have any history with Savox?

After doing some brief reading on what other people have posted seems to be about 50/50 so far.

I've been racking my brain over this throttle servo going out.

Not sure if driving my Rovan in water had anything to do with the throttle servo going out.
Now that I think about it, I remember running my little Rovan after a rain storm and ran it threw a little ditch that had about 3 inches of water and I got the Rovan really muddy that day and when I was finished running the Buggy I hosed it off with the water hose.
It was seriously muddy and at the time it seemed like the only option to getting all of the mud off.

Ill bet that servo got water inside of it.

O well I upgraded to a waterproof throttle servo.
The New Savox servo seems to be doing really well.

The factory throttle servo went haywire on my rovan before the end of my 3rd tank... never got wet... it for whatever reason would lose its memory for a lack of better words.. every time I powered on I’d have to readjust my end points and then mine got sporadically twitchy so I also chucked it for a savox... mine has an orange sticker... can’t remember the part # off hand... but mine isn t waterproof

"I tried telling you about rovan electrics and motors being junk, but you flipped out. I'll let someone else help you......"

Ok
Thanks a bunch. :D

Since your ambitious, I feel Bad. Im gonna give you ON POINT advise!!!.

Your welcome..

Now, don't wig the hell out when someone gives you experienced advise.....

It's rough on the ego when you brag how good your clone is then it starts failing like they all do.
Here we go with the "clone" thing again. You cant tell me an HPI Stock servo never fails. I have read that their servos are crap too.

I agree, the steering servo on my 5ive-T failed after a summer of hard bashing. The argument then becomes did a part wear out or did it break, when it fails after only a month of use I'd call that a broken part. It isn't as painful buying a replacement for a part that wears out as it is when parts break.

My experience with the Rovan LT305 vs. a Losi 5ive-T has been the Rovan drive line is prone to breakages where as the Losi tends to wear out. My Rovan only has one stock drive line component left, and the truck only has 4-5 gallons through it. The Losi still has a mostly stock drive line and has probably 12-15 gallons of fuel through it.

I really wish the Rovan had been has good as the Losi at half the cost but it wasn't, and by the time I had the Rovan for a month the cost of replacement parts had raised the cost of owning it to the point that I could have bought a second Losi and had a lot less down time waiting for replacement parts. The breakages also discouraged my son because he was afraid to drive it for fear that it was going to break again, not a good thing.

I have to say it is frustrating as all get out when a noob with a clone comes into a forum telling folks clones are every bit as good as the original at a fraction of the cost, these forum posts live forever!

My experience with clones is they just don't hold up like the name brands. In my group of friends there are clones and name brand rigs both Bajas and 5ives, KM and Rovan, Losi and HPI, and the clones have more issues. You could make the argument that the guys that have clones are on a tighter budget and can't afford to maintain their rigs to the same level, but my personal experience negates that argument, I am fortunate enough to have the ability to maintain two trucks to a pretty high level, and am hopefull that the rovans issues are behind me now, but it came at a pretty high price! It is much more expensive to build a rig piece by piece as they break, not to mention the down time waiting for parts, time to do the repairs, trying to anticipate what will break next.

Now if you are debating a clone of a 5ive or a DBXL I would say it's an even match the guys I run with that had DBXLs had a lot of reliability issues.

I run a HITEC HS5645-MG on one of my Baja and never had any issues. Mostly stock baja tho. Reliable, quiet and still has enough power. You can find them online or even at most hobbyshops for $35-45 since they are a fairly well known/common servo. if you want a decent servo for cheap this is a good route to go. Here are the specs.

Speed: 0.23 sec/60° at 4.8V
Speed: 0.18 sec/60° at 6.0V
Torque: 143.03 oz-in at 4.8V
Torque: 164.2 oz-in at 6V
Length: 1.59" (40.6mm)
Width: 0.77" (19.8mm)
Height: 1.48" (37.8mm)

Also worth checking out if you want more performance and don't mind dropping the coin. HITEC HS7955-MG and Spectrum 5645. Both good servos.

I'm also having the same problem as well. Anyone recommend a decent receiver, transmitter and servo combo.

My savox works but sometimes squeals a bit. End points are fine
Go hitec or spekteum if the budget permits
jmho on clones. I own A losi 5t. Hpi Baja5b. Rovan 5b and kings 5b
the losi hands down the strongest reliable runner out of the box. The Hpi’s are reasonable but break also when being sent Buta little less than others
The rovans are junk and require numerous upgrades. If u just run around on flat grass. Yeah they last a little longer bCrap build quality shows again when being sent in the air. cylinder plating @%#$
the king I can’t say as I brought a non runner with broken top end. Waiting for a dremel and top end to come to do some basic port work. Gasket delete maybe. and then I’ll see how it runs after some good bashing
please remember this. Hpi originally invested $$ to get the platform up and running. Of course they’re more $$$ cause they need to recoup $$$. If it wasn’t for them. You’d be running 1/8s. Thank them for their time and investment. Folks don’t do this for free. Would you ………
all the Chinese did was copy them. And did an average job at that. But more affordable for initial purchase price. You then pay down the track fixing everything
Pay once. Cry once.
