Cut a long story short. I bought a bargain Losi LST and have no interest in it (bought to sell) The engine was worn so I got on fleebay and saw the price of the piston and liners and thought I'll have a go at a repair on it.
The YouTube videos were just about pinching the top of the liner but there was this one that made more sense....
The piston on the Losi has three grooved rings in it so if you re-groove the rings so as to push the metal out (if you get my meaning) it should make a decent seal. Anyway , pictures will explain.
And a vid of the first start.....

Considering this wouldn't fire at all I think its a winner.

We used to do something similar to that to antique engine pistons if they were worn really bad and we couldn't get new ones. They would get chucked in the lathe and this special tool was used to knerle them. Cant say I ever thought to do that to a nitro engine. Good tip!
Ps I'm in agreement nitro is just too expensive for me anymore...?

Yes , it was a long shot but it made sense. You are only meant to do one groove but I done all three and the compression was back to normal. Do a ring , try for size then rub down with some 2000 grit wet and dry and so on and so on. Then I lubed it up and turned it over by hand a good few times then fired it. As per vid , good to go.

I might try this with my Kawasaki ZZR when it gets worn...:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

never woulda thought of that, good job. i wanna get back into it again but its a pain in the ass so i probably wont

Only thing wrong with nitro is the price of fuel. Botajell on youtube and a good Novarossi engine will get you back into nitro quick and you will learn something new. He makes the experience much easier and enjoyable.(y)
yes but that comes witha price, the 4.0 truggy (the 1 i want) is 600, plus a motor 200 atleast, then electronics, bumpbox, fuel, tires, wheels, ect easly 1000+, thats the only nitro vehicle i want except fir the tamiya nitrage that i would just keep on the shelf

Yeah, I have the "4.0 Truggy," I had to buy the RTR then buy all the 4.0 parts and turn the RTR into the 4.0 cause the 4.0 was back-ordered for like 1yr. I know I paid more than if I would've bought the 4.0 kit but it was the only way at the time to have a 4.0. Yeah you are about right on all the prices but you could prob get a used one for a little cheaper, but the engine would cost you easily 200. I have a RBMod modified Novarossi 28-8 in my 4.0 and I believe I paid around 350 for it.

With that cash you could buy another sweet1/5 scale rig with a load of shiny bits:love:(y)

True but it wouldn't be hardly as fast! And you could run on more local tracks. A lot of you guys have em but are frustrated with how difficult is is to start and run them. I used to be the same way until Botajell. He made a world of difference. Got me to pull my old Ofna Hyper 7 off the shelf and start her right up. Pull em off the shelves!!!!!:p
