give it a couple months and rovan will have a knock off priced the same with lesser stuff ??? but seriously that is one badass car! typical mcd coming in with the craftsmanship and engineering ??:love::love::love:

Ronan already has a copy.
MCD parts fit the F5. This is just a variation of it.
Its cool you can change their cars to other types, road - off-road etc.

AND for everyone who doesn't realize business strategy,I'm sure MCD and rovan(among others) has a licensing deal behind all of the "Clones".
These days intellectual/Design property is a major issue and taken extremely serious.
Licensing deals means Its a win for both companies, especially on the parts side.
Too me it makes no sense how people don't understand how current business and behind the scenes deals are done.
Nothing is done without the approval of the original licensed owners, ask me how I know.?
Been there,done that.
A company I worked for along time ago was sued because our design was a little to close to a big designer. For a piece of the profits though it could be worked out.
It gets me that people don't realize nothing happens without consent and usually payment from said "clone companies"
Its normal business as usual.
It's funny how dba's work on another note. You'd be surprised how many things with different names are actually owned by 1 company. Most people don't have a clue.
-End mini rant..?

Ok suureee but that doesn't mean they are the same. I'll still buy an mcd any day over the rov becuase mcd I'm sure has better fit and finish. Plus they originally designed it

You miss the point.✔
Their not going to do anything to cannibalize their own sales.
You'll be allowed to make a close clone. Price point is where the difference begins. You can get cheaper clone but know the original parts are better,so you "Upgrade" to manufacture parts.
They make out by giving you a way to get your foot in the door.
Then you'll want to upgrade,so you buy original parts.
Guess who still benefits?.
If the copy is bad enough you might go whole hog and next purchase buy the original version. Aside from quality aftermarket vendors they all make out one way or another.
Think "Global" these days.
Some people will be happy with the clone, but a lot will want upgrades. Its about getting peoples foot in the door.

You right ?

I put KM plastic parts on my 5ive. I'd never put anything else KM on it though and some parts just don't fit. I'm not paying the US equivalent of $50 for a part that I can buy for $5 and the quality is identical. I don't support clones but I also don't support being gouged in the pocket by inflated prices and import duties which are nothing more than additional taxes. Dunno what it's like in the US but in the UK horizon pricing is so artificially high that resellers make no profit from them.

I'm assuming the Rovan parts may also not even fit too. At least if I take a KM part and a Losi part and look at the injection molding and machining, they are clearly not made in the same factory or to the same tolerances. The KM battery box doesn't even fit on the 5ive. Would the Rovan and MCD be any different?

I am willing to bet that they don't have a license for their MCD clone, just like they don't have for their myriad HPI clones. China doesn't take IP very seriously and only bend to huge global players because having e.g apple pull out of China would show on the national bottomline. Someones toy cars? I don't think they give a flying "¤%&&. I have a friend who designed and sold these awesome and expensive watches. The factory stole his designs and made a competing line. There was nothing he could do. The Chinese legal system is racist/nationalist and a forreigner, even if he have lived in China all his life have a lot worse legal protection than an ethnically chinese citizen. They are completely open about this too so its not shady.

I love MCD's tech. I hate their looks. All their vehicles really look like oversized toy cars, or a computergame car from a game that couldnt affort licenses. The level of realism is near zero.

Well your not wrong. They couldn't give a poop about copy right and such

This must be the case because otherwise they wouldn't be on ebay. All a manufacture/rights holder has to do is contact them and the listings will be removed.

Kinda like GM and AcDelco parts. GM parts are AcDelco but they have different grades of parts. GM/dealer parts get's the best quality and then it drops from there. Just because you order a AcDelco part doesn't mean it's the same quality as the dealer but yet the same part and same 'maker'. AD takes it further than Rovan in that they don't even tell you this, they hide it. Ordered a thermostat and when I received it said MOTORAD on it. Come to find out AD subcontracts the part to Motorad and sell it as their own.
